60-65 cedars ?
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:46:50 pm »
A buddy of mine had 11 cedar shafts that he obviously wanted to give away. heck yeah I'll take 'em.
so I started thinking that if I leave 'em long and use a bit heavier broadhead (or field point) than I normally would
then they should be fine even for a 50# selfbow.
I draw 26", thought I'd leave the arrows 29" long and glue on a 145 grain broadhead. that should make 'em
roughly 50-55 unless I'm forgetting something.....
for that matter I guess it really couldn't hurt to leave 'em full length, seal 'em, fletch 'em and shoot 'em to
see how they fly. maybe that's the better idea.

suggestions and wisecracks are welcome.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Glenn start out full length and see how they fly first.
For each inch over 28" subtract 5# per pound. I never can remember how much for the heavier broadhead.

Pat B is the man to listen to.  No reason for me to comment really if he already has.  Sounds like you're on the right track though.  And like you said, free arrows, heck yeah!!

Yep.  Pat B on the mark as usual. I am shooting 32" arrows in my 40#bow and shooting 60# spine.  Obviously, it will depend on how far left of center your bow is cut, but they should shoot.
