Hard to Get
« on: July 01, 2007, 06:29:43 pm »
Just finished her up this morning.  I named her "Hard to Get" because she fought me the entire time.  Had to heat her up five times to straighten out all her twists.  Then while tillering she definately played hard to get but she finally came around.  She is 62" long and came in a little light, 46#@28".  She is 1 3/8" at the fade and tapers to 5/16" at the nocks.  Should make a first rate target or 3D bow.  I backed her with a pair of western diamondbacks and hand rubbed seven coats of tru-oil to make her shine.  I also installed a small compass just to dress her up a little.  Enjoy!

Nice looking bow you have there! I've got one I'm working on now that is a recurve, and I've had to tweak the limbs at least a half dozen times so far trying to get the limbs to track straight. Probably not finished yet. :)

I'll drink to that.  ;D  I have a bag of good cigars that Dick gave me that will go good with scotch.
Thanks for posting these other pics. That top limb tip looks like it was a bit tricky!    Pat

Chris, the bow came out nice, sometimes the ones you struggle with are the ones you appreciate more. Steve

both limbs were a pain in the neck.  they were so bad i couldn't get a string to stay on when i first tried to string her up.  the top limb looks funny in the pic but it's the angle.  i was just too lazy to take another at a different angle.  i'll have to run her through a graph to see how fast she shoots my 700gr arrows.  she might make a whitetail bow but i wouldn't hunt hogs with her.

Looks like a good'un, Chris. My favorite little osage bow was the same way, spent more time heating it than scraping on it, but it's worth it in the end. Fine lookin' weapon.
