wtt for osage billets
« on: July 28, 2011, 01:00:33 pm »
do quite a bit of backpacking whenever possible and really want to build a take down bow for carrying in the woods.
so i'm searching for a pair of osage billets.
sorry, i have no cash for trade at present, but have other primitive stuff that might interest someone, including a few old trade knives.
give me a holler if ya will.
thanks

I got a chunk of osage I cut last year.  It's cured.  I wanted to make a bow from it, but it had too much of a twist in it for a single stave.  Might work for a take-down.  It's about 5" in diameter and 84" long.  Twists about 90* down the full length.

I'm always looking for staves...any kind.  Also like anything leather, ready to go strings, knives, whatever.  The osage isn't worth much to me so I wouldn't be looking for much in return.
Goodbye, friends. I never thought I'd die like this. But I always really hoped. ~ Fry

morning folks. thought i'd bump this up as i havent found a set of billets yet.
some trade items that might work for one of ya'll- primitive type stuff. a nice liined plaid woolrich wool vest in great condition,   an australian outback style heavy waxed cotton(like tin cloth-to clean you hose it off) rain jacket. short, not the long horse type. but new, never worn. some knives. a few old broadheads, bear razorheads and snuffers. thanks

I have a challenging set of billets from a 70 year old fence post, burned at one end.  I'll PM you pictures and if you don't work out something with Rich and are interested, let me know.
