Collecting wood on Federal Lands - question
« on: July 01, 2011, 02:06:13 pm »
Hi, I'm new here and new to bow building.

What are the rules on collecting wood from US Federal lands? I've seen permits for sale for collecting wood from national forest, but we also have a lot of BLM land in the area. Who are the best people to talk to about this? local sherrif, fs rangers? Is there a basic overview on these laws? wilderness areas vs national forest vs blm ...

thanks.

The way I do it to go to the office of the park, or land management area, and start asking there.  Sometimes you can get a phone number by looking it up on the internet.  Here in Texas, the people I've talked to don't like the idea of me harvesting plants on government land.  Very small amounts is OK, of course, and maybe the invasive species.
Any critter tastes good with enough butter on it.

How to Cook It?  200° for 24hrs then 275° to 500° for 4hrs (depending on type), Cool for 12hr

Call the local BLM office. You can buy wood permits for "fire" wood in specific areas. They can tell you where and what species you can cut.
Everything happens for a reason, sometimes the reason is you made a bad decision.
