any spare pieces
« on: June 26, 2011, 01:37:44 pm »
i was just wondering if anyone had a relativity straight piece of osage, or any other non white wood only around 2ft long that they could spare, i will be using it to make a handle for an antique fishing rod that i am fixing up and i thought it would look awesome to have a osage handle
thanks

If Lowell doesn't have it I probably do.  I have many pieces in the 12" range.  Another good choice would be mesquite, the heartwood is striking.

just around 2 inches, preferably a square shape, i will be turning it on a lathe, also i just looked at the rod blank that the old rod has and it a translucent almost electric blue, it looks so cool

I have a nice piece that is about 2"X2" but it is not square.....it is from a stave that I just trimmed up with a band saw.  I'll try to show you a picture and see if it works for you.

fishfinder,

Here are 2 pieces you could have if you think they would work for you.  #1 is more wood but has some prop twist and is 25" long....#2 is a little less wood but is straighter and about 28" long.

The brighter end is fresh cut and sealed and the other is freshly cut and not sealed for picture...both are dried for several years.

I don't need feathers, rawhide, sinew or rock but really open to almost anything else...what might you have??  Not real fussy but like to get shipping cost equivlent back in trade. :D

If wood doesn't look like what you are needing feel free to say so!! ;)

I ment I cut the ends off freshly.  The pieces of wood are dry as they were cut 3-5 years ago. The ends were sealed right away when I cut the tree.
