Just one more
« on: June 01, 2011, 01:00:33 am »
I started on this one yesterday and finally got it finished up this evening.  I've had this rock for a loong time just waiting for the right moment to tackle it. It was an expensive piece of Carter Cave flint from north east Ky.  The lady I made it for wanted fine serrations and ribbon flaking....right up my alley! ;D

Soooo...You liked it?
I wouldn't call it my best ever, but I think it's in the top 5 pine trees I've made...And I've made a bunch!
Russ, Carter cave is some wild stuff. It's like Ky's version of Horse creek or Ohios version of Flint ridge. It comes in many different colors and textures, has quartz viens running through it, can be translucent to opaque. Just wild stuff!

Shannon I know I seen some yello the opaque... it is a rare and amazing chert I study where various form veins and pockets of chert come from etc... well u know...lol u are a lucky man to get a hold of some wild stuff... there are a few various knappable rocks that are in my area and cant wait to find them.. there is a yellow jasper and chalcedoney in various colors....the natives know where it was I am still on the lookout!  AWESOME stone my brother and I like the spacing ...flake scars are perfect and it does go to show u take ur time on each piece... give me a chance and I will have to knapp a few out maybe some points I keep studying and something different.  Shannon see u man!

Is that the flake the young 12 year old lady wanted a point from? That's some awesome flaking and convexity there dude!

Thanks you all.
No Paul, that flake that I woulda swore was hornstone tirned out to be Dover!  Amazing how much time will change a rock. It had a super smooth glossy appearance on the outside, but was just plain old dry dover on the inside.
Josh, you gonna be at the club this weekend?
