The Ugliest Bow I've Made

Well this one has a story to it. As a youth minister I spend a lot of time in the summer at church camp so last summer I decided during some of the free time I would see if I could make a bow. I had nothing but my leatherman type tool but I proceeded to get a sapling cut and somewhat tillered and made an arrow from some forsythia bush. I got it done well enough to shoot and the kids and other ministers there (most are avid sportsmen) thought it was really cool. Got home and put it in the rafters over the winter. to my surprise all of the set that was in it being super green when first made, had reflexed out of it. So I decided to work some more on it. Of course the wieght had increased as well so back to re tillering it some more. Still just used a knife and scrapers on it except for the tips which I used a four in one rasp to shape.
Hickory sapling 68" t to t. Bend through handle. 45# @ 28". Stained with Rit and has three coats of clear lacquer.
Gave it to my brother for helping me cut some elm last July.
That is my father in the full draw shot.

Yep that is one ugly bow..whoooeee! lol. just kidding I wish my bows were such that the ugliest one I made was that nice. love the knots on the back, stain, and as said the tiller is sweet! excellent job especially in front of the camp go'ers.

If our bows had no stories it would not be magic....as long as they do it is.
Ugly is as ugly does and this bow got your craving down to a mangeable level
.
And I think it's right cute.

Dang, if you could bottle whatever it was that took the set out of your bow when you put it away you could make a fortune from the rest of us. Every time I put a bow away that has a problem it gets worse sitting around. I don't think that one's ugly at all. I think you did well.

Thanks for the comments guys, it is kind of a cute ugly. I was inspired by Timo's bow of the month a while back so that's why I got it back down.
George; I have no idea why the set would have come out. Never had that happen before. But what was about 1 1/2" of set when I put it up was gone when I got her back down. Maybe just the way it was sitting in the rafters and dried more, I don't know??? If I knew how it worked I'd set some more finished bows up the same way and magically they would get straight again
