Shooting tab
« on: April 05, 2011, 11:36:07 am »
I discovered recently that I cannot shoot the locust bow I posted very well due to the high string tension on my fingers. I'm thinking about making a shooting tab. Does anyone have a pic of good shooting tabs or know where there is a build-along? I did a search on it but didn't see any pics. Thanks  :)

In other words, draw weight.

high string tension is just more early draw weight than normal.  More stored energy.  Usually recurves and/or reflexing will raise early draw weight increasing string tension.

Cacatch, what feels different with the higher string tension that you can't shoot?  Is the draw weight the around the same as your other bows you usually shoot?

I mean string tension at full draw, in other words the draw weight is heavier than on my other bows. I can't get it to full draw accurately because of the pain/discomfort/blood leaving my nuckles.

pull up a pic of one you like,   print it off (adjust size if necesssary) and cut a piece of leather to the same shape. ;)

Here is a tab I made from the wrist portion of an old leather glove.
Hope this helps.  ::)

Here's mine. Best thing ever. Switched to a two layer, with stiching right in the middle (between the finger holes and the "tabs" for teh finger tips). Never in the way, easy to carry. I like it :)

I just started shooting with a split tab.  I didn't feel like forking over any cash for one and since I had leather, etc I simply did a Google image search and picked one that looked like it would be comfortable.  Here is a pic of the one I made (plus a String Keeper) another closer pic and a pic with the pattern I made and the completed Tab.

Hope you find something you like...

   I think you mean is STACKING. Build your bows pass the target weight this will help.
  why not just take a couple pounds off if it's just to heavy.
