Red Oak Recurve Finished! Better Pics Page 2
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:07:03 am »
Well i thought it impossible but here it is!  I bent the limbs a year ago and finally decided it was time to splice them together and force them to become a bow.   :)  66" NtN, 45 lbs @ 28" 1 7/8ths inches wide tapering to 3/8th tips... Tip overlays are some scrap ipe pieces I found in a dusty corner of my shop.  5 coats of Tru Oil make up the finish.  B-50 dacron for the handle wrap. It kept around 2 inches of the original 5 inches of tips in front of handle. (reflex?)  This bow shoots pretty fast to me but I still can't get used to the little "tic"  sound of my string leaving the limbs as I draw it.  :-\   I also still need to silence my arrow pass with some felt or leather but I will get around to that in a few days.   So whaddaya think of my first Recurve??  I always thought it couldn't be done wit Oak board and that is the reason I let this one sit for so long before attempting it but now I am contemplating my next red oak project.  Say what you want to about red oak board bows, but I am here to tell ya... It makes a dang fine weapon!  I love to work with it and don't consider it to just be a beginner wood.  It's Good stuff.   :)   Thanks for looking!  :)

That is not a bored bow.  Heehee, bad pun, nice bow.  Seriously hot looking tiller with those sexy curves!

I really like it.  Very very cool.  I'm getting ready to start my first recurve.  I'm glad to see yours turned out so well AND with red oak!  Sweet. Good work man!
