Heat Treating question

When y'all heat treat a stave, do you start at the tip end and move toward the handle or start at the handle and sor toward the tip? Does it make a difference?
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

I don't think it really matters but usually when I heat treat I'm also adding reflex so I start at the handle and work out the limbs toward the tip clamping as I go.

That is what I was planning on but after watching Mr St Louis' vids and seeing some pics here, it looks like they are going the other way.
