Bending walnut
« on: December 30, 2010, 03:18:04 pm »
I justed started roughing out a black walnut bow. One limb is straight, the other has a lot of reflex. Can I heat bend and either add reflex to the straight limb or visa versa or should I just leave it be and try to tiller accordingly?

I'm not sure about BW. I think if you get it bending a bit as it is then add even reflex to both limbs with dry heat you could temper the belly a little to improve the compression of the BW.   Just a guess though!

I decided to try steam instead.I'm not as scared of steam than I am of dry heat, besides using the women's corn pot and a little tin foil was way cheaper than buying a heat gun  ;D Got it clamped to a 2x4 with a shim to give it a little "extra". We shall see.
