Chasing a ring in osage
« on: December 24, 2010, 03:29:49 pm »
You guys didn't tell me how much fun this is!!! My first attempt I actually violated a ring and had to go to the
next one. But once I got the hang of it it was really cool to feel and see the layer come off exposing the smooth
fresh new surface of the next ring! Very cool reward!  ;D

I think I could chase a ring on osage with my eyes closed just by feel and the sound of the crunchy early rings.
  It is fun!

"Therapeutic"....good way to explain it Sailordad. I lost track of time and had to be called into the house when dinner was ready!
"crunchy early ring"...Pat that's what I am learning to follow with touch and sound.

It gets easier, trust me. The first few I did tortured me, now it's second nature.

It astounds me how fast people get it once they get one or two real good strokes with the draw knife.  Once they understand the "feel" of that early wood, the only thing that slows 'em down in knots and pins.

The doctor recommends you stay on this therapy for a quite a while.

Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

When I chase a ring every thing has to be right cool spot under a shade  tree, just setting far enough out from under it to get full light on the stave area I 'am working on got to love it .
