Flathead Osage ( Ms Kitty )
« on: September 27, 2010, 01:48:43 pm »
I had a unusual piece of Osage i had put to the side a year or so ago, every time i walked into the shop it caught my eye, so i decided to see if i could get a hunting bow out of it for myself. I had to remove some twist, other than that everything else is just the way the stave presented itself.
I'm not especially fond of the full draw tiller on this bow, but it shoots so good i hated to change it. It has tremendous speed, smoothe draw, and little - no hand shock.

63" ntn
62lbs at 28"
1 1/4 limbs to mid limb tapering to 3/8 at tips.
Backed with flathead ( catfish ) skins

I have an osage bow with a very similar knot in the top limb.  You did much much better than I did.  I wouldn't change that tiller at all.  How long is the bow?  I really like that shape.  Impressive bow.  Never thought of using catfish skin as a backing, looks great.

I wouldn't touch the tiller. Nice bow, can't argue with a sweet shooter.

Nice work, I think the tiller looks great too. How big were the flatheads? Man I love catching those big 'ole flatheads.
