"Expectations"
« on: September 12, 2010, 01:33:58 pm »
Finished this one a couple weeks ago. Hickory, it's 66" ntn and 60# at 28", 64" at my draw (only pulling 28" in the photo). Tempered belly, the bow started off more or less straight, the bottom limb holds 1/2" reflex while the top limb holds it's 1/2" string follow. Red oak stain, jute handle and limb wraps.

The bow's named "Expectations" because it exceeded mine every step of the way. The stave had been haphazardly whacked out by a hatchet-weilding lunatic, leaving gouges and marks all over and the handle too small. Previous projects hadn't done well with this stain, but this one went great. It also lifted a splinter, which I patched with a piece of leather and TB III, hence the limb wraps. At 64# it draws very sweetly. It doesn't stack, but there isn't that high early draw like reflexed bows. Despite being so gentle to draw, it shoots very well, and holds its own against a new FG bow I built with 1" of reflex in the tips. It's very accurate, with no shock, and extremely light in the hand. All around good bow.

Also, let me make it clear that I did not just make a bow to show off the new hat. That was just pure coincidence ;)

Thanks Rob. I knew if the bow wasn't a winner the hat would be ;)

And here's the action shot. Not the best, but it shows the color and wraps.

Simple is elegant as most cases. Love the look on the back, the wraps, tiller and the finish. great work man.

Beats the "Dickens" outa most of my bows (hehehe).  Nice work, you are fast becoming a serious bowyer, kid.  Keep it up.

Very Nice Bow!  Great shape and color, nice curves!  If there were difficulties, they sure don't show!

Oh, and, nominated for Hat of the Month.

If it doesn't rap the lintel, it might not be a longbow.
