Danish rabbit killer (all done)
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:35:58 pm »
Hi all,
I'm finishing up another Mollegabet, a request.  It's 59" ntn, 30#@24", 2" wide in the limbs, linen backed fully quartersawn white oak.  It is for a woman who has had problems with both shoulders and is working her way back into archery (her previous bow was her fathers 1940's Ben Pearson, which has been retired rather than risk breakage), hence the light weight.  The backing gives me a canvas to paint on, as the owner is a long time member and past royalty in the SCA, holder of many awards and heraldic devices, which she would like displayed on the back of the bow.  She'll also use this bow to keep the rabbits out of her garden, and in the stew pot.
This thing has taken so long to get to this stage that I'm getting bug-eyed looking at it, and I surely would be glad of some fresh eyes on it.  The full draw shown here is my standard 24", but the owner only draws to 22".
As always, your observations and comments are greatly appreciated.
Frode

If it doesn't rap the lintel, it might not be a longbow.

Looks fine to me Frode.  Everything seems to be bending so little.

I'm pretty bug eyed from reading pdf's though...

You're mastering these in a hurry!  Tiller looks fantastic, I think you might get away with tapering the thickness of the levers a bit more, those bunnies can move fast.

I "put the oval" to your tiller picture and can't find a thing wrong, Frode.  Looks about as perfect as you could get.  Start the Lady's paint job, the woodworking is done!

Really nice looking bow, and a great gift. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice - great tiller. I would taper down the levers - less weight more speed ;-)

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement!  I'm always grateful for your input.  I've begun the paint work, I'll post more as I finish it up.  I'm using artist acrylics, and silver and gold marking pens.  Here's a teaser.
Thanks again,
Frode
