using hog/deer toe nails for tips?

Hey All, I had been saving toe nails from some kills in order to use them on a bow...I thought they might make decent tip overlays.  But now I am having a hard time figuring out how to work with the toenails to create a tip overlay.  Anyone else ever use a toenail on their bows?  How did you cut it/machine it to mate it with the bow?  TIA, paulc

I just saw them as flat as I can and put um on a belt sander. Be sure to degrease good,they are kind of like using bone,a little oily sometimes.

Yeah, make sure you degrease the glue side like Pappy said and you'll be fine. I use hooves for nock overlays and strike plates.

I did it once and liked the results.  Just used a hacksaw, then hand files.

Thanks so much for the feed back...and here I was all proud of myself with a unique idea! 

I will let you know how it works for me...not sure about getting it to stick to my bamboo backing
