Grain angle for belly wood
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:32:25 am »
If I order some hickory or lemon wood or maple for the belly of a bow do I need to worry about the grain or does this only matter for hickory backing strips. I am planning to back with bamboo.

You can get away with a lot more when you back it but straight grain is much better for belly wood than boards with lots of run off. I would try to get quarter sawn wood with straight grain if you have a choice :)
