some tail
« on: January 13, 2010, 01:41:29 am »
well i was beating on some rock a few days ago and made areally nice, all be it miniature, turkey tail
this was made last weekend before i  bought the overstreet book.
it was from raw Kay county chert.i wasnt gonna show this one at all,but changed my mind.
then tonight i sat down stairs and grabbed a piece of cooked Kay county chert.
i had the intetions of making another mini turkey tail, like the first one.but the rock didnt want to cooperate.
so i nocked out what it wanted to be.this one was done by almost all percussion.a little pressure flaking, but not much.
when i finished it and looked thru my book,to my surprise i got a turkey tail anyhow.all be it a differant style and still a mini. :)
i realy like the first one,its my best mini tail to date.
i gotta say i do prefer the raw material over the cooked stuff.
heres some pics

thanks for peeking

well today i got  box of dacite in the mail
which was quite fitting considering its been a year since i started knapping and it is what i first worked with too
so i went down stairs and when i opened the box i knew i heard a faint gobble  ;)
so i dug thru the box and found the one that was making noise and knew there was a turkey tail inside of it
so i decied to try for my biggest one yet.its not my best looking one to date
but as you can see by my pics it is to scale.these are fst becoming my favs to make
this spall already had a hinge in it,and i couldnt work it out and still keep the size so i left it in,sometimes yo just gotta know when to say enough ;D
heres some pics for ya'll
i just noticed in the first pic, toward the left hand mid/bottom there looks like a turkey track on it  :).
its just a flake that didnt completly let loose, but cool none the less
