Do many of you use trade points on whitetails? PICS ADDED
« on: September 19, 2009, 03:14:36 pm »
I just made a few trial trade points about a 100grs + - , and was wondering do many of you successfully make kills with these type points. I have some Howard hill broadheads but they are 165gr and dont seem to fly as well. My feild points had only been 125- 100gr. Any thoughts or cosiderations are surely welcome.

thanks

Mike

Them look nice Mike....I wouldn't be afraid to Hunt with them at all....but are they Legal in Texas? I am thinking they need to be 7/8" wide here.....

Mike, that's all I use for deer and hogs.I make mine from band-saw and circ. saw blades.I cut the band saw blades 3 1/2 " long,1" of that is straight tang the width of the arrow shaft, then a 1 1/2" wide by 2 1/2" long triangular point that'll give a  a weight a tad over 150 gr.. I usually build the circ. saw blade a little smaller to get the same weight.if it ends up a little heavy I serrate the blade with a triangular file. Both of these points I temper by heating cherry red, then quench in motor oil.Good huntin' to you this season.Oh,by the way,Mike is right, your points are not legal for deer in Texas, they need to be a minimum of 7/8th ". God Bless
