Would like your opinion
« on: May 07, 2009, 10:11:12 pm »
Hello all.
Just finished this bow. The only dry osage stave I had, Everything else is drying.
This is only my third osage bow, although I've been doing several board bows.
This one is 68" tt, 66 nn, 1 1/2" at fade and 5/8" at nocks. This stave had humps, dips knot hole and a small amout of twist.
I know it's not perfect and I had what I thought was a hing at the fade in the lower limb which I think I fixed the best i could.
But it also had a hicup in that spot so not realy sure.
Put in about 2" of back set in the limbs, lost that but the bow is flat with no set at rest. I can live with that.
52@28", I mist by 8#, wanted 60#, oh well.
Picture aren't the best. Try for some beter one tomarrow.

Looks good from what I can see, but the pics are really small...maybe try posting larger pics.  If you can take some pics on a lower resolution setting, then you won't have to resize them so much.

if the bottom limb dipped right out of the fades in the stave(you did say it had humps) and the unbraced profile is perfect everytime then I would say its fine, by the way nice job for a character bow and especially for a third, much better than my third

Yes it has a weird dip [I guess you could call it that] or hump at the lower fade.
I thought it was hinged but it also looks diseiving.
I'll get some better picture tomorrow I hope.
All 3 of the osage bows I've done had weird things going on with them.
Wonder what a straight peice would be like. ???

Looks good from what I can see. If there was an actual hinge at the fade, you would probably be seeing more set on that limb than the other one. I've never met a straight, clean piece of osage-each osage bow is an adventure in working around the individual characteristics of that piece of wood to find the bow inside of it. Looks like you did a good job doing just that.

Thanks fellas.
Here are some more pictures. I hope their better. Can't get on to these darn pictures.
These humps and bumps are fun.
Hicup on lower limb fade.

Right side.

Looked at the preview. This seems to be the best these picture are going to come out. Can't seem to make em any bigger and keep them clear. Sorry
Guess if it's looking OK I'll get a handle on it. Has a little hand shock, maybe I should narrow the tip a bit more?
