Childs Bow?
« on: April 09, 2009, 06:08:22 pm »
I'm going to start on a Osage bow for my Grandaughter.
Keep in mined she is only 3 weeks old but she is going to get one. ;D
I've looked in my BB's and other books and hate to ask any questions but I need to.
I need to know measurements for let say 5 to 6 year old little girl, she should be ready for it by then.
Bow legnth?
Draw Length?
Draw weight?
Handle detentions?[lenght, fades,width]
I'm thinking 48" long, 10#-12# draw weight, and handle of about 3" w/1" fades.
I need your advice

i just made an osage bow for my 2 year old nephew, although my 3 year old boy and 7 year old daughter shoot it great!  it is 35" tip to tip, 3/4" wide for the middle 6 inches and tapers straight to 3/8" tips.  it is basically 1/4" thick throughout give or take a teeny bit and 1/2" thick in the 3" handle.  it really spits 18" arrows made from 1/4" dowels. i draw it to 15-16".  i will try to post a couple pics if you are interested.

You might want to think about going a little higher with the poundage.  Here are some pics of a 60" ash board bow I recently finished for my 6 yo daughter.  It is tillered to 25# @ 21".  Her draw length is only around 16-18" so she is only pulling around 15#s.  I built it that way so she would be able to grow with it for a year or two.  The last pic is of my 9 yo daughter with the same bow.

The riser is 5 1/2" OAL (including fades) which gave me a handle about 3", it's made up of purple heart and hickory.
