Shooter, a thumb ring is an ancient release aid. It is a ring of horn, bone, ivory, etc that fits on the thumb of the string hand. The string is hooked over the thunb ring, middle finger hooks over the thumb and the string is pulled. When shooting with a thumb ring the arrow goes on the right side of the bow(for right hand shooting) which is opposit of a traditional type draw. These were used primarily be horse archers in the past.

There is also a Turkish Thumb Ring that was worn on the thumb of his left hand it looked like a Ring with a 4-5 inch long quarter moon shaped tray that the Arrow set on ....like an Overdraw for a Compound Bow.....And when flight-shooting ....This ingenious devise enabled the archer to draw the point of his arrow from 2 to 3 in. within the inner surface of his bent bow..... He was thus
able to shoot a short and light arrow that would fly much farther than the considerably longer and heavier one he would have had to use if he had shot in the ordinary manner without the grooved horn overdraw ring....The groove in the horn guides the arrow in safely past the side of the bow when the bowstring is released by the archer. The Turks in fact shot a shorter and lighter arrow from more powerful bow.....which he drew to the same draw as if he used an arrow 3 inches longer.... with a shorter lighter Arrow...the results were a lot less drag to slow flight...and shorten the Arrows flight

Gotcha...so you think something like 22.5 mm would be a good fit for the front to rear, so you can put it on and twist 90 degrees to fit?

James, I will be picking your ear at the TN Classic about how you built that bow. I think I may try one myself. They look fantastic and if I know how you build them they probably shoot the same way too!!!!
