Bamboo Backed Maple for wife.
« on: January 11, 2009, 07:52:11 pm »
This is a boo backed maple with a thin belly lam of boo.  I visited with the "Connecticut Caveman" Jamie this summer and saw this bow in an unfinished state.   It was built, tillered and ready to shoot.  Jamie gets all the credit for the "real" work.   He didn't want to finish it because it came in too light .  He gave it to me to finish up for my wife.  I finally got to finishing it off.  The tiller was right on so I lowered the weight a bit with a little sanding.  It draws 38#@ 28" (about 30-32# at her draw)  I added some tip overlays, dyed, oiled, made a grip, and silencers.   She is excited to have her own bow and hopefully we'll get some shooting in.

That is one fine looking bow and your wife looks like she knows what she's doing. Tiller looks excellent to me.

I think this is the most UNDER-RATED part of this whole bow addiction thing: that it is a family activity.   From gathering splits and shoots, to making Flemish strings in the evening to just shooting in the the yard and having fun together, ARCHERY has to be the best thing going for family togetherness.   And, when it comes to playing on a budget.......geez.......you could make 100 Bows and arrows for all of them for what a Wii game ($437.50) or an X-Box costs!!  Really!!

keep up the good work buddy, have fun with your family.  Shoot with your wife and little guy and any more little guys who come along and they will learn lots more from you and about you than just how to point sharp things down range.   And, you'll learn things from them, too.  I GUARANTEE!!

Beautiful family.....you are a rich man.

Thanks for the kind words.  I think she will be a natural.  She never really shot anything before.  She'll be outshooting me in no time(That isn't saying much).  Aaron's is in the works,  He pretty much killed the little glass/suction cup one. So I'm making a little laminated one for him.  After I talked to KnightD for some advice he was running around after me yelling "Make Aaron's Bow"  So we went in to the basement to get a start on it.  Then his little sisters bow will be next.  Islandpiper you have it right about the family aspect.  I'll do anything with and for the kids as long as it means no video games.
Oldbow-If it is considered for BOM I would like it to be known as a Jamie's build and my finish.  He gets credit for making it a bow. Thanks
