Hello, everyone. This is the little hickory bow that I made from start to finish(living tree to bow). I say that because it is only the 2nd I've done that way. Most of my bows have been board bows or kits that I ordered. It turned out lighter than I wanted because I had to chase a hinge that developed. It is 35#@27". It'll be just right for my wife if my 2 boys don't talk her out of it! I recurved the limbs, per YewArcher's directions on here. I didn't have a heat gun when I started, so I couldn't temper the belly till I was almost done with it. It did take some set, but not too much considering the length of the bow and the 27" draw. I stained it with red oak stain and finished it with tru-oil. I built up the handle with leather front and back, and laminated leather for the rest too. I then wrapped the handle with leather and stitched it up with artificial sinew. The tip overlays are bocote. This was my 1st attempt at overlays, as well as recurves. My finish work can't compare to some of you other guy's, but it's pretty good for me. Let me know what you think. :)
P.S.-Bear with me while I try to post all of the pics!

That's a good looking bow from what I can see. Make sure your pic's are 480x640 and under 200kb.
-
Thanks Cowboy. Yeah, I thought the outdoor pics would look better, but by the time I resized them enough to get down to 200k, they were so small you couldn't see them. I'm sure there's a better way.
-
If your computer works like mine - I couldn't tell ya, I'm pretty worthless on computers ::). Don't resize them to under 200 kb, but crop them. Open your picture and click "picture" on the toolbar up top, then click crop. You can slide the sides in without resizing.
-
I tried doing that cowboy, but it didn't bring the number down enough. Even the last 3 pics I cropped, but still had to resize them. Maybe I should try taking the pics on a different setting on the camera? ???
-
Yep use, use 480x640. And that is a nice bow. Was the hinge on the right limb? It looks a little bit weaker.
-
Thanks mullet. Actually I think the hinge was in the left limb, which is why I made it the top limb, but since shooting it more the right or lower limb has gotten a little weaker.
-
I think it's too short for a hickory bow for weight much more than what you got. Shooting for a heavier weight and then hinging the other limb probally weakend the lower limb. Your wife ought to like it, build the boys there own. :)
-
Looks great :)
-
I like it - nice work. Haven't tried a recurve yet, hope I can do one like that soon.
-
Any chance of a larger full draw?
-
Yes OldBow, I'll try to get a better pic of full draw tonight.
-
Here's another full draw pic. I have to be careful not to draw it too far since I'm 6'1" tall.

Good looking bow- tiller looks good, nice work. Looking at the profile, I bet it still flings an arrow pretty zippy for the weight.
-
I have to agree with everybody else. In that picture the tiller looks real good. She'll like it. ;)
-
Super bow! Great job. Jawge

Wow! Great work on this one. Pretty impressive to see such a short bow cranked back like that. Bookmarked, too, for Nov Self BOM.
-
That is looking good Brad - nice full draw!! and looks like ya got that picture thing figured out too :).
-
Thanks guys. This is definetly the shortest bow that I've made that I've drawn this far. It's kinda fun testing the limits when you don't have any money invested. Yeah cowboy, I'm kinda slow sometimes, but I think I have the picture thing figured out. ::)

Congratulations on venturing successfully into new territory with this short hickory bow. Turned out nice!
