I had to make a bow for a swap at "Pirates of archery", after a couple of failures and no more dry staves, I had to get one of my old bows down from the rack.
I needed to make a bow with a 29" draw, so I took down the only 68" Guava I have, ..that was worthy ;D
Whe I finished this bow over a year and a half ago, the scale said 63 # @ 27", since then I got a few HILLs and I was able to calibrate her,she was 5 # off, having moved to a much dryer area the bow gained some pounds too.
when i took her down from the rack she was showing 70 # @ 27", so all in all I had to get about 15 # off, noticed a few things that didn't look good, (looked good then, not now ;) ) and basically retillered totally to accomodate a 29" draw
she came out really good, I wouldn't want to be on the reciving end of an heavy arrow loosed by this bow.
Braced looks quite funky, but you see she comes around at full draw
68" ntn, 60# @ 29", assymetrical limbs, Guava overlays, Hemp grip wrap, zebra hide rest and plate, homemade finish, ho yeah, since jared is a glass shooter I added some leather on back and belly at the handle, didn't wanna give him a bow with to small of an handle, the transition would have being eben harder then ;D

Beautiful bow, Manny. Jawge

Nice one Manny! im running into the same tillering problem on my latest hickory, one limb is absolutely perfect. the other has a bit of reflex that just doesnt want to work out.
looks like you handled it nicely though!

Hi Manny
Great looking bow as usual. How doe's the guava react to heat as far as straightening crooks or bending recurves?
Thanks Ronnie
-
another nice piece of whittleing there Manny,, those sapling bows just look so primitive and natural,,
-
KAAAABLEEEWIEEE,

thanks a lot guys, much appeciated :)
Ronnie,
no where near as good as YEW and OSAGE, yuo can get a sligth bend but that's it nothing major
Phil
you gotta look at the separately at brace, and make them meet a bit more at full draw
-
Hey, Manny
Super looking bow, as usual. Loaded with character! You've got those tricky staves down to a science. Thanks for fully sharing your knowledge!
-
That qualifies as a branch sticking out at midlimb, not a knot. Great looking character bow. Justin
-
heck of a bow. that guava is beautiful :)
-
Beautifully simple bow Manny. Your trade-mark tips always add a nice touch to any bow you do :)!
-
A fine example of a "stickbow" - nicely done Manny.
-
thanks
-
thats an awesome bow, i like the big knot, it makes it looks real authentic. the overlays look great too, i was going to ask you how you did that, actually. did you just sand it down with fine grit paper, or was there more of a trick, or tool, involved? great, great bow, hoping to see more of youre work on the sight.
-
Thanks Ballista.
did you mean how did I do my overlays ?
If you want, there's a very detailed ongoing buildalong on PALEOPLANET you migth wanna check out, amongst other things I show how I make my overlays
-
Thanks for the tip on the reflex Manny, im gonna try that. once i get it a bit farther allong, im gonna post some pics.

Wow! I'm tempted to say you have an assembly line set up the way you're cranking them out, but they're all unique one-of-a-kind bows. This one really is pretty, great job!
Have you been hog hunting lately?
-
Thanks Guys,
..Hey I'm trying to learn this craft, gotta make as many as I can ;D gotta get to the 100 one so not to be a rookie anymore
-
Sorry Greg, I've being hunting some new spots, somethimes I get cougth by the beauty of it all and end up doing more exploring than real hunting ;)
