A friend of mine bought me a pc of Jasper in a rock shop in colo. This rock reminds me of a common red brick in color an texture, do I need to heat treat an if so what temp? My next question is this jasper a low grade because of the texture being non glossy or waxy, Thanks in advance for your help. Bob

It's not glossy because its not heat treated. Knock a little piece off and see if it's glossy there just to make sure. If you need to heat treat it soak it at 400 to 450 dgs over night. It knaps like butter when heat treated.

Yea, I have some of that stuff and left it at Claudes today to heat for me. I misread your post and was thinking of Brazilean agate, not jasper. The Jasper is probally going to have to go up to 600 to 700 dgs Claude said.
