Check this bow out ! Its about the coolest piece of character wood I've ever seen. The pictures really don't do the bow Justice. Its made of hard maple 64" ntn and pulls a modest 44#@28" Weaker than I wanted but I was happy to get a shooter out this piece of wood! The lumps in the handle act as a reverse style riser with built in finger grooves. Hope you enjoy!

Not yet Pat. Soon. I think I'm going to give this bow to my buddys Girl friend from our archery club. She's been shooting a little elm bow I gave her a couple years ago, but she's ready for a bow with more mmmph...I will try to get a picture of her for the full draw since she's much nicer on the eye's than I am. ;D
-
she would have to be really pretty to outshine that bow brother, very cool 8) you bowyers inspire me.... HAWK a/ho

Very cool looking bow sometimes you find something that was just meant to be a bow.R.C.
-
Wow!Thats a heck of a good tiller for such a bumpy bow. Real cool!
-
A pretty neat looking bow Ryan
-
pretty sweet man! i really like the way you do your tips, very minimal without the overlays. very nice bow.
Phil

Very nice Ryan! Great looking bow, can't wait to see the full draw.

Very nice, Ryan. Jawge

Wow, lumpy bumpy's right :). That bow's looking sharp - can't wait for the full draw. She's gonna love it!
-
Thanks everyone! I came upon this stave by accident. I was cutting a big leaning dead red oak tree for fire wood and it fell and knocked this little maple tree over and simultaneously striped the bark completely off and split it. When I saw how cool and lumpy it was I couldn't pass it up so I brought it home and roughed it out and threw it in the hot box. I never would have cut that tree in a million years for a stave from the way it looked from the bark on the outside. I guess it was "just meant to be a bow". ;) ;D
-
good madicine in that one bro... HAWK
-
Very nice bow. Your handle reminds me of a osage I did a few years back. Big knot in the middle of the handle. Looks like a revers handle bow.
-
Ryan
This is a really cool bow mate! It is very ....bumpy ;D I love the look!
Btw, you wouldn't happen to know what kind of maple this is would you?
Alex

Another beauty, I like all of the character. Looking foward to some full draw pics.
-
Cool stuff, almost looks like diamond willow. What made it grow that way, ants? I cut a little elm that had the dark spots like that, ants came pouring out of the bottom of the log.
-
Nice bow ryan I love to see hard maple character bows :)
-
good medicine indeed! man the other tree did all the grunt work for you, it was beggin to be a bow!
-
Thanks guys, I'm not sure what caused the bumps or the black spots ? No ants were in the tree when I cut it.
It is what we call sugar maple or Rock hard maple Alex.
-
Here's a full draw shot, with its new owner Alyssa, as promised.

Looks to me like she knows what she's doing! Nice tiller ryan.
Its fun to give bows away now isn't it ;D
-
Looks really good,I like it. David
-
That looks darn fine to me Ryan! Alyssa does appear to be able to handle a bow quite well :).
-
The purty model and full draw were worth the wait. Nice job Ryan
-
Great looking bow from a "crappy looking" piece of woodm Ryan. You did a great job nailing that tiller.
-
So that's the piece of maple you were telling me about a while back. I thought you said it was ugly ??? Ain't nothing ugly about that piece of maple! I believe you could make a tobacco stick look good ;D
-
Thanks guys. It was sort of challenging to tiller with the bumps making thick and thin places through out the limbs.
Dana, It is fun. Wish I had more time to build them, I would love to make one for a few people around here and yes guys she does know what she's doing...... ;D She just out grew her old bow so to speak....it was only like 30# and she was having trouble shooting longer distances with it. Plus her old bow didnt have a arrow shelf, this should be easier for her to shoot.
Shannon, never seen a tobaco stick? ....... ;D Thanks buddy.
-
man, there's always something unique about your bows Ryan!
tiller looks fantastique!
frank
-
Thank you Frank. ;D
-
Cool 8) I love it. How did you reflex the tips? Dry heat or steam? Im working on a maple and was thinking of reflexing he tips a bit.
Jesse
-
Jesse,Thanks. I steamed in the recurves on this one since the wood was fairly green still.
-
Nice bow Ryan,Good job on a challenging piece of wood.I know she will like that. :)
Pappy

Sweet looking bow Ryan!
Ryan, a tobacco stick is used to hang tobacco up in a barn while it's being "fired" and is drying. Usually around six stalks to a stick, and most sticks I've seen are out of oak. I'm sure you could make a shooter out of one! ;)
-
Thanks Pappy.
Thanks Greg, for the explanation.... ;D
