Here's a short osage I'm working on. Draw is 25" what do you guys think of the tiller? You can also see how wonky my left shoulder is >:( I'm working to extend my draw
but it hurts, may have to try going back to lefty.

Dana, Looks good but the tips could bend a bit more and that will give you a few more inches of draw. Pat
-
Looks pretty good Dana, I don't remember any of your bows ever looking bad come to think of it ;D. Now, after staring at those pictures till I'm about cross-eyed. It looks like that top limb is a little stiffer around mid limb, not much though.
-
What Cowboy said. Just a smidge in the middle 1/3 of the top limb. Then again, how does it shoot and feel?
-
Thanks guys, I also thought the top limb is a bit stiff in da middle. Pat I have it tillered to 26" and thats plenty for
my miserable draw :) It does shoot hard and fast, I'm actually impressed with it. It has a bit of handshock, its at 16 oz
and I believe I can narrow the tips to lose an ounce which should put me right on the money by way of badgers mass theory,
should also allow the last third to get a slight bend and reduce hand shock. Oh yea its pulling 50#@25" and I believe it was 58" NTN
-
Looks great to me, I like the tips stiff anyhow. I agree the upper mid limb is a tad stiff too.
-
Nice bow Dana. I'm with everyone else, just a bit stiff mid top limb. Can you flip it and put the stiff limb on bottom?
John
-
Just a tad stiff on the middle third of the upper limb, Dana ol boy. But a plenty nice boy. Don't know if ya hunt 'em, but it comes across to me as being a good squirrel or rabbit bow.

Good lookin bow there ol buddy. Hows things in da UP?

I like the tips stiff anyhow.
That's a pretty common statement Dano but alas, age gets us all..... >:D
-
Lonnie, get your mind out of the gutter, GEEZE!!! When ya get old most every thing is stiff. :-[
-
I agree Dano, everything gets stiff words to live by ;)
Papa Matt dis is a deer bow, she shoots hard and fast :)
cracker its starting into fall up here in da UP :)
Okie I can shoot it right side up or upside down, left or right hand :D I'm not kiddin either but it seems to shoot best with the upside up ::)
I will take a few scrapes on that limb tommow and also take a bit of the sides on the last third to lighten the mass a tad.
Thanks for the input guys :)
-
Looks good Santa Dana ! I hope you make some meat with it this year.....are leaves turning up by you yet ?
-
ya i would say just a smidge stiff mid upper limb, other wise looks real good there santa
as far as the left shoulder goes,i dont see nothing wrong there, thas how mine looks ever since my surgery and i can hit what i'm aiming at some times ;D
just as long as i doesnt move and if it does move as long as it moves in front of he arrow :D

Ya John a few trees are showing color.
Tim a doctor is also responsible for my shoulder ::) And I always hit something on every shot jsut not always what I was aiming at :-[

Hy da temp jus got to da 89 fer a couple days. Back to da 90s today.Still pretty hot eh.
-
I ain't commenting....I gets myself in trouble everytime I critique a Bow.......so.....It looks really Nice Dana!!! :P
-
Dana, I agree with everyone else on the upper end and also personally I like a little bend further up the limb...but many others don't. If it were jimmy I'd take just a tad off the last 1/3 of both limbs.
What are you doing in a long sleeve shirt? Is it already cool up there?
-
Dats Yooper Apparel....You wear Flannel Shirts from August to April..... Den you wear Long JohnTops with T Shirts over dem and Cut Off Jeans till Summer starts....
Have you got you first Freeze there yet Dana??? My Brother in Ishpeming.... lost most of His Garden the beginning of the Week to overnight frost....but then it got back up in the 70's for a High
-
Looking good Dana. I would be happy with it. But I do notice the top limb a bit stiff after others mentioned it. But like I said I would be more than happy with that tiller.
-
Great looking bow, Dana. Is it finished for BOM. You might give me a heads up if not. Not bookmarked for BOM - I'm away from my personal computer.
-
EMike it only got down to 44 here by Lake Michigan, we usually don't get frost till later in Sept, I know low lying inland areas got frost, and yup trees are starting to change, weeds are dying back etc. Winter is coming :)
Ranger B I'm eaither wearing a flannel or have one nearby all year :) Ya never know what the conditions will be around here I've seen 70 degrees in January and snow in July :o
Ok apparently my top limb is stiff ;D Don't sound bad to me ;) hehehehehe
-
Dana, didn't read all the other replies, so I'm probably repeating comments here...looks to me like the bottom limb is bending a little more then the top. As long as you have the weight to work with, you might get the top limb matching... ;)
-
Dana, man - I think I'd scrape that top limb a little :D ;D ;D.
-
What does the unbraced tiller look like? Jawge
-
Pretty straight George maybe an inch of reflex :)
-
What everyone else has said.Top limb ,middle 1/3.Bottom looks good. Don't knock short draws. ;) ;D ;D A man has to work with what he has been given. :)

It is interesting to see everyones critique on a good tiller, tring to make it even better. What I would say is... How long is the bow? you said it was short but how short. That might make me want to take a scrape or two right at the top fade. Also what Jawge said about the un braced profile. Other than that I think the top limb is just little stiff in the outer 1/3.
Just my 2 cents.
Mark
-
I just found where you said it was 58". Personally when I go that short I try to get them bending right out of the fades, the top fade looks a little stiffer than the bottom.
BTW. The last dozen or so bows I have made I used the digital camera for a check during the last few inches of tillering. You can really study the tiller better.
Again just my preference.

Thanks for all the help guys I should have included an unbraced picture, this bow is done now I scraped a little here and there
and good enough is good enough it shoots hard and fast, will be my go to bow this deer season :)
-
Dana, thanks. There are advantages to leaving those tips stiff in that stacking is really negligible. The disadvantage is that on short bows more of the limb needs to bend to increase longevity and decrease set. Guess I should have asked how much set you started with. You got a nice shooter there. Not sure I'd touch it. Just things to remember for the next one. Jawge
-
Thanks Jawge, no stacking whatsoever of course I'm only drawing 25", I lightened the tips and the hand shock is gone,
took a few scrapes out of the stiff area. I'm impressded with how well it shoots :)
-
Good job, Dana. What a great pastime this is! Jawge
-
Needs a few coats of tru oil :)
Jesse
-
DONE YET?? ;D
-
Dano I have the skins on and 3 coats of tru-oil, patience grasshopper ;)
-
hey santa! - that lower limb looks fantastic! did you work the upper mid limb??
looking forward for the finished bow!
frank
-
frank I did work the upper limb a bit and she's almost done for better or worse :P :)
