Title: 2nd Annual Christmas Trade...ship Jan 5
Post by: DanaM on August 26, 2008, 01:38:45 pm
As there appears to be enough interest in this, here's the official announcement ;D

One change from last year is Handmade Gifts Only! no raw material, hope everyone is ok with this :)

Gifts can be just about anything, bows, arrows, knives, knapped items, quivers, art work, jewelery, woven baskets. Take a look at last
years for idears.

To our friends in other countries please feel free to join, a number of folks are willing to ship overseas :)

Da Rules Eh :)

1.) Give a gift from the heart as its better to give than to receive.
2.) Handmade Gifts Only.
3.) Post pictures of yourself with your gift when received.
4.) E-mail me one picture of yourself with your gift, please only one picture. Set your camera to its highest setting!!! An 8 megapixel camera set at
640x480 is not high resolution, High res pictures are necessary for publishing in PA magazine.
5.) When you reply, please state some basic info: Draw length, right or left handed, other outdoor interests ie. fly fishing trapping etc.
6.) PM me your name and addresses and whether or not your willing to ship overseas.
7.) The dates are as follows. Sign-Up ends Sept 21st, Ship Date is Jan 5th Please no early shipping, I would like to see everyone receive their gifts at roughly the same time. I will PM you who you have drawn with an address by Oct 1st.

This gives everyone who joins 3 months to craft a gift, even with hunting season I believe this is ample time. Thanks in advance for participating and I hope those of that didn't join last year will join this time. Please be aware that if you join you are committing yourself to this, so consider carefully and don't get in over your head.

I won't be joining myself as I will be doing the drawing and the organizing although I will have a gift or two ready just in case of any snafu's or other trouble.

Send pictures to either of my e-mail addresses:

Merry Christmas Eh Y'all ;D

Dana, I'm in for sure. I missed out last year, and it looked like a great time.

My only question is, how do we know who we are making the gift for? Forgive the maybe dumb question, but this will be my first time participating.

Thanks,

Dane

27" draw length, love em in the 50-65# draw range. I also like Knives, arrows, speats, and other emplements of destruction. Anything that can go ballistic is a major pluss. I also like knappable material and any other raw materials I can make stuff from.

I don't reply on here much, but I thought that I would enter for this because I like to make things for others to enjoy and I thought that it would be fun.  I am right handed.  Have a 25" draw length.  The poundage would be between 30-45#.  I enjoy things that are made from the heart.  It seems that most people are to much into going to the store and buying something for someone instead of actually thinking about it and doing something from the heart.

Thanks

Seriously, I think people do think if it is not factory made and purchased in a store, it is not valuable or worthy. This crowd knowns better, though. That is why I hang out here.

I remember some years ago my wifes family would get together at Christmas, everyone would bring a present then draw names and
first name drawn got to pick a present and so on. Well the wife's sister picked our present when she opened it she was disappointed and said thats not a real present!!!
We had packaged up a basket of homemade jams, pickles and stuff. At the time we were pretty poor and it was the best we could do, actually were still
pretty poor ;) Anyway that was the last time we participated in that little family tradition :o People are to caught up in the fancy crap from the stores and have forgotten how it used to be. Thats why I originally came up with this Christmas Trade deal and the most important thing is to give from the heart and don't get in it with any expectations about what you may receive. The best present is to make someone happy with the incredibly awesome gifts your all going to make and give away ;D ;D ;D

So remember be generous and give from the heart and put a smile on someones face eh :)

Merry Christmas eh y'all :)

Hey all, I replied to DanaM by PM but since everybody is posting their info here thought I better as well. I'm pretty new to the primitive side. I shoot a 55# Montana long bow: I know, I know, It's not a  primitive bow but I haven't built up the nerve yet to make one yet; 29" draw. I like making anything I can, archery, duckhunting, pretty much anything to do with nature. I will appreciate any gift someone is kind enough to give.Cheers.

Draw 22"-26", 45#, Right Handed.  I like anything primitive (pottery, pouches/quivers, bows/arrows, pipes, flutes, atlatls, arrowheads, stone knives).....the more primitive the better!  Not into steel, clothing, or religious items.

Thanks, this will be fun! ;D

Hello Everyone,

I dont think I have posted anything yet about my measurments. (I will be VERY happy with anything that is sent to me)I have a 30-31" draw and any weight above 40 Lbs would be great. I like knives, my hobby is making knives. I just got my first selfbow last week and I am still learning how to shoot without sights. I am sure I could use anything to do with trad archery. I like anything to do with fishing, hunting, outdoors...anything. (Again, I will be VERY happy with any gift I recieve). Oh.... I am right handed.

As for who I got, that person does some amazing work. It is a good motivator, then to do my very best work. It so happens that I started the gift before seeing what he or she has on their wish list, and it happens to be a perfect match.

This is a lot of fun.

I'm not sure why I didn't see any of it and wasn't a part of it last year, I think I was still in and out of the hospital. But I can only imagine how much fun it must have been watching everyone get their gifts from day to day.
Glad to be in on it this year. Having fun already. ;)  Thanks Dana.

i am thinking its because most of us procrastinate and along with the holidays and family obligations take up so much
time,it was the best way to get people to participate.

heck i am still working on mine when i get enough free time at once, hope to have it done in time as it is. any sooner and i would of had to say no.

Not all of us are skilled craftsmen or craftswomen, the idea is to do your best ,and to give from your heart, anyone receiving their gift will know this, and I am sure they will receive it with the graciousness that it was given to them. Christmas is giving not receiving.

AKAPK First you need the soldiers address it is different than what you are used to,you go to the P.O. and they wil give you a special form to fill out with to and from address and what is in the package in my case I sent Jesse some dip so I just put tobacco. It took about a week and a half for it to get to afghanistan.
Hope this helps Ronnie

was really sweating this one.......

my gift is no surprise as I needed the foot off pappy in order to make up my gift. Actually this started out as I wanted some knee high brain tanned mocs and I thought they would be cool.... well then couldnt figure out what to make for the person I drew and decided that pappy had way too many bows from what I heard..... so anyway... Im still not much closer to having mocs for me but I guess that is what christmas is all about huh? So I got pappy to send me drawings of his feet and let him know what I was gonna make....

But like I said I was sweating it. Never did much tanning before besides a couple little critters earlier this year.  Was really stressin' about being able to make a buffalo tan work. Well it seems to have come out ok so far. Only got 1/2 the hide done but think I am finished with that 1/2 and can actually start on the mocs. I have no Idea how they will hold up to use but I am hopeful... and I guess there is only one way to find out.

Here is how it looks so far..... Merry christmas Pappy... well hopefully anyway..... If I cant make it work well then will send you something else that will be a surprise..... Later wade

May be late getting the gift done. Real bad stuff is hapening here. My Grandfather just had a heart attack so everything is on hold until things are better. It was a mild one but there is still a blockage and they are airlifting him to Bellingham, WA hospital to remove the blockage this evening. Just not up to working on the stuff until this is all taken care of.

Sorry for the delay guys!

Just got back from the Hospital and my grandfather is doing fine so far. Had two stints put in to clear the blockage but some damage was done due to the heart attack. They said its really small though. Thank god for that! Man he just had some twinges going on and was smart enough to have us call an ambulance right away. Was tough for them to get here though. My grandfathers drive is about a football field in length and was totally snowed in.  We got him out and to the hospital pretty quick though. Had to shovel the drive yesterday after they left so they would have and easier time getting in and out when he gets back in a day or two.  Weird thing is he went in for 5 way bypass surgery about the same time of year 16 years ago! Must be something really stressful about the holidays for him. Big relief he is going to be ok! He's nearly 82 and still jumps around like a young man and out shoots them in IDPA competitions!

Thanks again for all your prayers! They helped out a lot!

David

Very glad to hear you grandfather is doing well. Your post helped to put things in perspective.Had my own string of bad luck this holiday season but in light of having a loved one in hospital makes it all a little less aggravating. Hope he continues a speedy recovery.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

What to do now...?
I asked my mate, if he got a parcel already. Short reply:"Nope, not until yec. dayset." As you may have read I`ve sent if off already in the first Decmber days.
Which may be the reasons? A postman has it stolen, the customs may think of weapons or is the decoration with snowowl feathers a problem? I declared it as a "Present".
Don`t know how to do now. Could put a pic. to this thread, but then it won`t be a surprise...
Title: Re: 2nd Annual Christmas Trade...ship Jan 5

It could be the snow owl feathers. It is against the law here to possess owl feathers.

Mike I had to ship out of country so I was actually following my rules O:)

I know some will be late due to unforseen circumstances so be patient folks as I'm sure they will arrive.
Their have been a few folks that have had family obligations and such arise and they need to attend
to these matters first and formost.

Sent mine out on Jan. 2. only because it was going from Canada to the USA, I included the proper customs stickers so it should be there in about 9 days, unless stopped at the boarder, then who knows how long it will take.
