Title: painted hickory, not for BOM
Post by: sonny on August 23, 2008, 04:36:40 pm
I've been messing with this bow for years,, really !
I was never happy with the grip....some other things but now it's finally coming along.
Finally I decided to paint the back, after seeing a couple of nicely painted bows here.
figured I'd show off the paint job, which I'm giving a few days to fully cure before applying final finish.

I need to decide what to put on the handle....I think I'm just going to wrap with some natural linen string that I have..

sonny, that is a beautiful paint job! I think a linen wrap would look good on that grip - why no bom?

Beautiful paint job.  How about wrapping the handle with a strip of tanned deerhide?

the grip is just the right size and may feel too bulky I if I were to use deerskin.
that's why I'm considering something as thin as linen string.

not for BOM as it's not done....I might post some finished pics......

thanks for the compliments!

It looks great Sonny. Hemp makes a nice, feeling wrap. What did you use for paint?

the paint is the cheap 99cent bottles of acrylic paint from the craft store. I had most of the colors on hand, had to pick up the green.

Nice design and paintjob, a hemp or linen handle would look good on that.

ive honestly never even considered painting any of my bows, this has changed my point of view. as far as a handle, i think some deer hide would look fine, but you could finish it the way it is and i'd say it looks great. good work, cant wait to see the finished product. -jimmy.

Love it!!!

Yep some of the best stuff out there. I just seal it in with acrylic varnish, then lacquer on mine.

Again lookin good. Real good.
