now i might be getting this wrong but are linen strings good bad....and if its good where would i go to get some....when i was at the central oregon gathering i seen dave making some strings for a short bow he made....i hope this post is in the right area....i want to learn about string making but i dont know jack about it...so how do i get started on strings....thanks john

im not too good at explaining things, but i can tell you itll be kinda confusing untill you do it, then its a piece of cake. there are a bunch of tutorials on the web on how to do the flemish twist. somebody will chime in soon!

i have always liked linen thread but the last couple of years there has been some very low quality linen on the market. The breaking strength is barely 1/2 of what it is advertised at. Pyro supplies is where I get my bad linen and they were not too helpful about taking it back regardless of the fact the breaking strength was advertised on their sight. Steve

The linen string and thread I have tried has been weaker than I expected. I think the problem is the expense of making string from long strand linen fibers. IMO, everyone must be using short strand linen fibers. :-\

I have heard that linen can be almost as strong and fast a string as dacron b50.
I switched from dacron to linen about 2 yrs ago. shot with it for 2 seasons.
It was very quiet. and I didnt really notice any difference in speed.
I bought my linen string from Pyro supply as well. This year I switched back to dacron due to breakage problems.
I shoot a lot but not a ton. I made all strings out of 8 strands of the Pyro bundle. Heavily waxed. the first string lasted approx 6-7 months with out breaking. however the next 2 breaks occurred really close together within a matter of months with out any increase in shooting. I reinforced the loop and timber hitch with 4 additional strands. All breaks were at full draw or just after release and were near the center of the string or just up from center.
Until I can either figure out why it is breaking at shot or find some stronger linnen or perhaps add more strands I am going to stay with dacron for this hunting season. Would like to shoot linnen but dont want to sacrifice a bow to it.
Just my experience.
