Title: camo-a-bow?
Post by: recurve shooter on July 31, 2008, 04:23:43 pm
i plan to hunt with my hickory elb this year. it is finished with tung oil cuz i dont like to artificialy collor wood, i think it preserves the beautie of a bow to keep its natural collor. however, i think that hunting with it would be about like the yettie trying to hunt in a hardwood thicket. that six and a half wood of white seems like it would catch some attention. my question is, how do i make it less noticable. im willing to stain it as a last resort, and i want to snake skin it as soon as i can find some snakes, but is there any temporary fix to my delima? thank yall in advance.

If you're not worried about primitive correctness you can get those camo limb cover socks from 3 Rivers. They're made out of stretchy stuff and just slide on over the bow limbs, and you can slide 'em back off when you're through hunting.

One of my favorite colorations for hickory is hand rubbed with oil and finely ground charcoal. It goes into the early ring heavily and the late ring less so the grain shows up nicely. It is pretty subtle but would help a "white" hickory bow blend in.  ;)     Pat

If you want temporary, I've used camo face paint on the back of a bow. It comes off with a damp soft cloth.

Pantie hose works well, for a temporary camo job.  You can get them in a dark brown, and you can lightly paint spots, and blotches on them.  Then just take your sissors, and custom fit, them, or just cut them off at the crotch, and then tie them on.
They are cheap, and reusuable, or disposable.  You can make them shaggy, and shredded, to give the leafy, or mossy tpe effect.
