I figured everyone could use a good laugh. Here are a few points that I made. I am having a problem with the grey flint. I can't run the thinning flakes and the points come out rounded. Most of the black stuff looks like obsidian, but I am not sure. So crack one a cold one and enjoy the show.

Maybe one day I will come up with some that look good enough to put on a necklace.

Look better than the ones I usually see at the tourist traps. ;)

ya Justins right.
Sometimes i like to pick tourist trap points up and touch them up into a better point
-
Every one of them would be lethal on the end of an arrow! ;) You have to crawl before you walk!!! Pat
-
Atleast I have lots of material to practice with. I went in the woods behind the neighbors and came back with 12 pounds og glass bottle and jug bottoms. I'm going back later for the TV screens and an old oval wash tub that will soon be a forge. Hopefully between that and the 65 pounds of rock I have got, I will have a few points good enough to hunt with in 2009.

You know what they say... practice makes perfect!
-
No criticism here...I'm sure they're better then I could do! ;) Keep hacking away and I'm sure you'll improve.
-
Not to worry - you've got the bug and will get better with time. I used to take my points like that and show em around, arta be proud of your accomplishments not matter what level your at ;).
-
Stay away from those wine bottle bottoms ;)
-
I agree with Pat... brother, crawl before you walk.. you are already up on one leg great job! All you need is a hand pad an ishi stick and an abrading stone and those flakes will be coming off nice and long for you... Hawk a/ho
-
Pat, I was crawling. Where do you think the wine bottles came from? ;D Just kidding, mine comes from quart jars.
Hawkbow, I have a toolbox full of different flakers and boppersand crap smackers. I like the ishi stick the best. I am just glad I have the patience to go with all of it.
-
Its a dangerous habbit to empty the bottle right before you knap. :o I get cut enough stone sober. ;D Justin

I'M NEW TOO MADCROW, AND YOU'RE DOING BETTER THAN ME. DO YOU FIND THAT GLASS IS EASIER THAN FLINT?
-~~MATT

The glass is alot easier to work with than the flint. It is also easier to break, usually when there is only a few flakes left to take. I may be different in the way I do it. Usually, I will have a couple going at one time, so I can switch back and forth. It helps keep me from getting in too big of a hurry. I had four of the black points going at one time.
-
they arent as good as some of these guys but they aint terrible theyd be good small game points sir...keep tryin i can tell youll do good, they arent so bad...
-
Lookin' good. Sounds like you got lots of material to practice on. For me, 65# of rock will make about three points. ;D
A forge aye? Sound like me, I dabble in a little bit of everything. ;)

Mine looked that way couple months back but then it comes to you
-
hell they are better than most museum points ive seen. peace
-
They look a lot better than my first ones. Use your abrading stone some more and it will help you run longer flakes.
-
I had to sacrifice an old 6" grinding wheel for an abrader, but it works great. I can tell a big difference.
-
oush inwards towards the center of the rock instead of down you will get nice long flakes.
