Title: Honey Locust with white wood??
Post by: Papa Matt on July 21, 2008, 12:22:38 pm
When making a bow from HL, is it best to leave some white wood on the back or make the entire bow from heartwood, like you would hedge or black locust?

I believe HL should be treated like white wood. I have not used it for bows though.    Pat

I'm working on a piece right now and i would take the sap wood off, the heart wood is some strong stuff !!

I have not got to make a bow out of it yet, but i have one ruffed out and i went down the heart wood....i think a little of the sap wood would be ok, but it sure is a lot softer than the heart wood, so i guess i would say yes treat it like it's cousin Black Locust.

Good luck and keep us posted !
