made this like two months ago and never posted it. sorry . thanks to hillbilly for the stave and advice on the bow building process. 64" like 40 pounds(don't have a scale) @28". sweet shooter. I'm not a very good shot though so it isn't used to its full potential.this is all i can post of it ow i might be able to post more later of the front and everything. it took about 2 inch set:(

Good work young man. Keep practicing and you will be shooting like Byron before you know. Justin

Very nice! Nothing wrong with 2" of set :)

I'm no Annie Oakley either in the marksmanship department. Thanks for posting the bow. Simple is always nice.

Looks like you did a good job on it, and congratulations on getting a shooter. Don't worry about the set, it won't hurt a thing shooting-wise. The tiller is a little bit uneven, as you build a couple more and get practiced up, the tillers will get better and the set will get less. 2" isn't bad at all, anyway for a short ash bow. If I remember correctly, that stave was dead straight with no reflex or deflex, so a degree of set is inevitalble when you're dealing with wood-the only way to avoid follow is to induce reflex into the stave. Remember in the TBB vol. 1, Tim Baker considered about 1 1/2" of set to be normal and good, and used it as a standard for testing bows. All in all, looks like you did a great job, my first few bows either broke or required no bending at all to brace them. :) Let me know when you're ready to build another one, and I'll head another stave your way, let you try some different kinds of wood.

The tiller looks pretty good on the top limb, the bottom one has a slight hinge at mid limb and is stiff there out to the tip. All and all I think you did pretty well for your first bow..... 8)

thanks guys, i think it is like 1 and a fourth at the widest or maybe one and a half. cool im in for bom. sorry cant get more pics now. im traveling to Moosehead Maine for the summer. ill post more when we get there. it tapped to the roof now. has anyone made a bow from driftwood.
-
Mitch, I guess it would depend on what kind of driftwood and how sound it was. I've read of Inuit making cable-backed bows from found driftwood. Have a good trip to Maine, sounds like a good summer. And don't forget that Mt. Kineo is almost completely made from knappable rhyolite. >:D
