Hi Matt. The overlays are whitetail antler as well as the arrow rests (burs). The grip is made of built up leather and wrapped with kangaroo leather lace. What do you mean how much backing? The black piece over the grip is raw hide dyed black, and the rest is just pin cherry bark. oh the strike plates are cherry bark also....

Looks real nice Ryan, she ought to be very pleased with it, wheres the full draw picture?- Ryan

Thanks Ryan. Sorry no full draw picture, I'll email you one if you want sometime. I'm not putting this into botm.....

That's a sweet little bow Ryan - as usual :). Still hoarding that cherry bark you gave me till I can get around to it..
-
Thanks for the reply ryan - you answered all my questions - gave me some ideas to try
-
This is a very beautiful bow and I know it shoots well because I've held and shot your bows. ;D I have used cherry bark on hickory backed(flat back) bows but not on a stave bow. Anything I need to know before I try it. I have some just waiting for the right bow. What method and glue did you use. Pat
-
Thanks guys. Pat, its kind of a pain to work with. It wants to curl up on ya while your trying to glue it down. I got it wet and cut it out close to width I needed for the bow limbs and scraped all the rough stuff off the back side of it with a scraper while it was still wet. Then I glued it on useing titebond3. I used a old arrow shaft sawed in half down the center of the limb wrapped with masking tape to help hold the middle of it down while the glue was drying. Like I said, it seems to want to curl up in the middle if you dont do it this way.... ;)

The cherry bark is beautiful. She should be happy with it. Justin

Your bows are a pleasure to look at Ryan and this one is no exception. The cherry bark looks great and I like the r/d design you used with the reflex more concentrated toward the tips.

nice work, man...you are a helluva craftsman
-
A fine work as usual! Compliment Ryan :)
-
Ryano, you craft a fine bow.
-
Aewsome Ryan, Very nice bow. The detail work is excellent, as well as the profile and tiller. Good job with the contrasting reveal along the edges, and the tips tie everything in very well. Congratulations. ;) Keenan
-
she came out real nice, but i love the bend on the full draw pic. i wish i had your tillering skills.
-
Thank you, Gentlemen!
Marius, thanks man. Tillering is easy. I use about a 10" long straight edge on the belly side of the limb to check for stiff spots and hinges and adjust acordingly. It really is that simple. The only other tip I can give you is to go slow. You can always take more off but you can put it back. Your tillering has looked just fine to me, from what Ive seen, so you must be doing something right. ;D
-
yeah, i think the "go slow" is my problem area ;D
-
Ya, Marius. I still have a problem with that myself and I know better. ;D
