Title: Hickory Bow
Post by: Key on June 10, 2008, 05:53:19 pm
I made this hickory bow for a friend. 72 inches long and 62 pounds at 28. When he picked it up he shot around 30 arrows out of it. He shoots a glass re curver but shot this bow well and said he liked it. Next step will be to get him building his one bows :)

Absolutely awesome bow (I'm a huge fan of long hickory bows)! What's the width?

It is an 1 3/4 tapered to 1/2 inch. I wanted to make it long with his 28 inch draw and the 60 pounds + that he wanted. Thanks for the kind comments guys.

That is a good looking bow Roger, your friend should be happy. The tiller looks spot on too.

;This may be the best executed hickory bow I've ever seen.  It appears to have no set.

Fine looking bow. Hard to beat that design for a good durable all-around bow.

Great bow.
It looks like an illustration for the classic hunting bow in the Bent Stick by Paul Comstock.
Do you have a front photo showing the width profile?

I guess it seems crazy now that white woods were once not considered bow woods.

Thanks for all the supportive comments. I did put some defelex in the bow when I had it a the floor tilller stage. Here are a few more pictures when the bow was in process. The picture on the tiller stick is on the long string at 10 inches. I don't have any other pictures of the bow but I want to take some after my firend has shot it for awhile.

The heck with the bow   >:D Love that living room.   ;) Good combo with stove next to fireplace.  You'd need it here in Montana this a.m. Heavy snow and 40's across entire state on June 11, '08
Got your fine bow bookmarked for June Self Bow of the Month, despite my cold fingers.
