This bow was a lot of firsts for me and was a real learning experience.
First real piece of sage I worked (not counting a kids bow).
First snaky piece of wood.
First time I backed a bow with slik and snakeskin.
First tip overlays.
Shortest bow I ever completed.
First bow I have ever not had any string follow on.
Second attempt at a leather wrap handle. Man that is tough especially when you contour the handle. I am not completely happy with it but it will do for now.
It was fun and a challenge and like I said a real learning experience. It came in approx 10 lbs under my target weight but I am extremely pleased with it.
stats are: 61" NTN, approx 42 lbs at 29". Dogwood tip overlays and shelf. backed with dyed silk and prairie rattler skins.
Enjoy.

Beautiful Wade. You did an excellent job on that snaky bow. The tiller is perfect. 8) Pat
-
Wade-excellent work, coaxing a great looking weapon from a nasty-looking chunk of wood. Fine job.
-
Wow! That's a nice gnarly piece of wood ;)
-
Outstanding job on a tough piece of wood and I don't see anything wrong with the grip :)
-
Bow looks great, dude. Does it stack when you draw it? I see the string angle is pretty high in your full draw photo.
-
Nice job!!
-
very nice wade looks relly nice, :) good job
-
very sweet bow there man.
-
WANDERFULL little bow !!
-
Good looking bow! I'd still be looking at the top limb wondering what to do. 42# will work fine on any deer I've encountered.

Thanks everyone. appreciate the nice comments.
radius - no I have not noticed any stacking at all. I dont think I could build one any smaller without flipping the tips though. It is close as you noticed.

I like!!! it. David

WOW!! you did a really nice job. The finish on those skins look great! Joe H

Very nice looking. What kind of finish did you use on the skins?

Nice work, nice finish, looks like Thunderbird.

Great job you did one that one! Don't sweat the weight thing ; 42# is heavy enough to kill, yet light enough to be fun. Saw Filer

Thanks guys. Yup 42 #s will still fling 'em. Had to build a new set of arrows for it though. Just finished them up. got a set that matched weight right around 460 grns. Should fly great out of her. I was shooting 650 and heaver spine arrows that were for my other bow. Think this new set will fly soon. Gotta wait for the finish to completely harden.
TC - that is true oil a gun stock finish I picked up at local wood working shop. lots of guys use it on their bows. Actually I followed gordon's build along and applied 10-12 coats... took waaaayyyy too long but looks nice.
I might actually dull it down with some steel wool for hunting. but for now I'm gonna leave it shiny.
thanks again.

Wade, A quick spray of satin poly will take the shine off. I use it on all my hunting bows. Pat

That's an incredible bow you got out of that stave Wade!! Great job, tiller looks right on and real nice job on the skins, handle and finish and 42# will work great for deer, no problem. I saw this stave when Wade first started on it and I gotta admit that I probably wouldn't have even tried to get a bow out of it, it was a very challenging piece of wood.

Wade, stunning bow. I have the feeling that the work on PA is just getting better and better all the time, and this is no exception.

You should be proud of that one! Great job!

Nice job on a challenging project. I'd regard 42# @ 29" on a 61" bow as being equal in cast to about 52# @ 28" on a 67" with typical string follow. Only a chrono will say for sure, but I never sacrifice good tiller and balance for draw weight. You just rob Peter to pay Paul as I see it in that scenario. Congradulations.

Awesome bow. Tiller is great. Jawge

Thanks agan everyone for the nice comments.
I said it was a bunch of firsts...
Forgot to say that I'm gonna take my first deer with it as well. >:D
