OK here it is, I'm about 95% sure it is osage by the way.

I know the tiller could be better but the prop twist in the lower limb and those knots gave me fits. I called it good when I got it to shoot with as close to "ZERO" hand shock as I have gotten yet. It shoots hard and fast. I have put probably 120-150 shots thru it so far. It had 2.5 inches of reflex when I started and just after shooting and unstringing it has a about 1.25 inches, after resting it back to about 2 inches. the most reflex I have managed to keep on one yet.
I sprayed this with oven cleaner to try and darken it up some, I could not tell hardly any difference for 4 days. It has 4 hand rubbed coats of truoil on it so far, I'll add a few more coats to it in a few days.
The bow is 59" ntn
53# @ 26"
Beavertail rawhide handle and strike plate.
Buffalo horn overlays.
Thanks for looking David

No mystery there David. Thats osage, and nice one at that. Great job. How long you been building bows?
-
Thanks Ryano, I have been attempting to make bows for about 5 years now. They are getting little better. :)
-
thats beautiful. I love that :)

Nice Bow....but gotta Question...I am a Stickler for Details....and was wondering....do you shoot all of your Right handed Bow....Lefthanded??? 8)
-
Thanks guys!!
El Destructo... GOOD EYE SIR!! :) No that is my left hand your looking at, I was born with a factory defect on my left hand (only have 2 fingers) When I shoot I use a sling (most times just a leather string) to keep from dropping my bow, at least most of the time. Have you seen how high a recurve will bounce after falling 20 ft?
Anyway like I said good eyes for the details. David ;D ;D

You made a very nice bow with a difficult stave. Congrats. Pat

Got your neat weapon all bookmarked for June Self Bow of the Month. Thanks for the post!

Yep....I know how far they Bounce!!! Been there ....Done that!! I also know how far a Cammed Bow Limbs will go..when you try to cut the excess Serving String with a Razor Sharp Knife!!! ;)
I should have paid more attention to the Elbow....Huh!!!! I too inderstand challenges....ever since a Bike Wreck in 93 ...I have 60 percent mobility lossing in my Right Leg and very little feeling in my Right Foot....and when I have to run a Backhoe at work......I have to tie a Belt around my Left foot to work theSwing Peddles...because I cant use the Right one!!!! The things you do to compensate!!!
I will tell you this....I take my Hat off to all of you...that take these Way Cool....Way Funky Osage Staves....and make these workable....Useable Works Of Art from them....I guess I will have to try it soon....when I cut Wood...or Buy Staves....I always look for the Staves with no Knots...or big kinks and twists....I guess I pass up a lot of Bow Wood.....huh!!!
David....once again....a mighty fine Bow you have there!! You should be proud.........Michael "ElDestructo " Roberts

Fine looking bow. You did a fine job getting all those trouble spots to get in line and behave-good work.
-
Looks to me like you did a great job on her :) How about a full length unbraced side profile picture?
-
Very good job on that difficult stave. How difficult was the beaver tail to work with? Could you show a pic of the handle area? ;)
-
Beautiful bow - what did you use as a sleeve? I'd like to do a take -down after I get a few under my belt.
Destructo - My favorite way to ruin a compound bow hunt is leave it unrestrained in the pickup bed so the arrows can pop out of the quiver and slice the string. ;D

Very nice bow,job well done. And I'm with Ray ,that has to be Osage. :)

i thought he was shooting it WRONG handed as well.....until I noticed the ELBOW.
Nice weapon there mate and way to overcome what many people would consider a difficult handicap
-
very nice job with a very tricky piece of wood. I am amazed you got it bending so well through the holy sections. turned out beautiful. nice job.

Greg, This is the first time I have used beaver tail before but I really like the the way it feels. Mike Yancey showed me one of his a couple years ago with a beavertail handle so I thought I would give it a try. I made a pattern out of paper to get the fit right. Cut the rawhide to size drilled the lacing holes and soaked it in water til soft. Then laced it on (don't pull the thread tight) the rawhide will shrink as it dries and rip the lacing out if you have it laced to tight to begin with. The next day I tighten up the lacing a little and tied it off.

David...that is a good looking Handle.is that Gut Lacing or Artificial Sinew?? I always use my own Leather or Rawhide...and Gut or Rawhide String for Lacing myself...How much does the Beaver Tail shrink up?? I am going to try this one time...really is eye catching...thanks for sharing how you did the Handle......

Ya'll are cracking me up with your "shooting wrong handed comments."
Like I told El Destructo...
Thanks for looking close enough at the details to notice my hand. Anything I post on here I want constructive criticism not just a pat on the back or a good job. I want your honest opinion good or bad. I want to learn as much as I can from all of you so bring it on, Lets hear it. :) :)
Thanks to all for looking and asking questions David

That is artificial sinew. ::) ::) :)
-
Great job on a tough piece of wood. How about taking a picture of the full draw from a little farther away. Sometimes camera angles mess with the view. Justin
-
I knew it would look killer once you pit some finish on it!!! Awesome job, you have my vote too! The handle wrap looks awesome too!
-
The bow looks very nice that's a fact, but I think you could have made the tips a bit smaller. They look a bit 'bulky' (don't know if that's even a word). The take down system looks very decent. I do hope the bow doesn't take too much set just below the fade of the lower limb. The unbraced profile looks good though. It looks like sage to me.

i want that bow!!!! nice job man. ;)

Justin here is another pic may still be alittle to close ...

I know what you are saying about camera angles most of the pics we took looked real crazy on the bottom limb where the has some prop twist just above the knots.
Tom you are right about the tips being a little smaller but I felt like I had pushed my luck on this one all ready. So I stopped there, also other tip has a small knot right at the end of the tip overlay that I wasn't sure would hold. The tip in the pic is about .5 inches the other is maybe a 1/16 wider. Thanks for your suggestion. That what I am looking for. :) I shot this bow alot yesterday and it seems I have lost some more reflex. I'm down to about 1 1/4 inches after resting. and pretty much flat when first unstringing. But it seems to come from the whole limbs and not just from one spot so I guess that still not to bad.
One more question for ya'll.., does it look like the top limb needs to bend a little more say 6-10 inches or so from the tip.
OK maybe 2 more questions...
Yesterday when I shooting I flipped it over and shot it upside down, does the tiller not look better in the upside down pic or is it just me? From shooting it I can't tell any differece in how it shoots but I may play around with that some more and then redo the handle if I have to.

The last picture looks pretty good to me,with a stave like that you probably ant going to get te prefect arc.If it shoots good and still 1 1/4 reflex I wound say you done fine.Nice job. :)
