I never made a bow that would break my heart if it broke...till this one.
I generally never get very attached to any piece of wood and tell myself, "It's just wood. If it breaks, i'll make another one". But this one's different. This wood was a gift from Ryano.
You all know how it is, you just think more of the things people give you, than the things you already have.
Anyway, it's 55" ntn 1-1/4" wide with a gradual taper down to about 3/8" nocks. The handle is slightly narrower and just bends enought to see, but not really feel at full draw. I flipped the tips up just a touch and she draws a smooth 53# @ 27" and shoots better than any i've made.
The skins are a couple of rat snakes my nieghbor gave me. I wasn't sure how they would look at first, but the more I look at 'em, the more I like 'em!
I don't have a full draw shot yet, but will try to use the timer on my camera and see if I can get one soon.

Thanks Ryan, I hope I done your wood justice!

Dang Shannon you didn't do justice to this bow when you were describing it to me on da phone :)
She's a beauty, she's got the total package going ;D Very Nice.
-
Great looking bow Shannon, rat snake skins are way under-rated, They look great.
-
What a great looking bow!!! I really like those skins, nice to see something different. The tips are beauty's. Can't wait to see a full draw. Really nice work.

You can learn a lot from pictures,..about your Tiller :D ;)
-
Tiller is that what you call that which hangs over the Belt!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!! Well besides that and the Fact that the Bracer would work better if covering the Tender part of the inner Forearm ::) ::) The Tiller on this piece of Wood is Spot On.....nice Job Shannon...oh ...and don't worry bout belly.it gets better with Age!!!!
-
Thanks Micheal. It does look like I need to tighten up my gut...and armguard ;)
-
I'd say you done good with that little sliver of snakey wood Shannon. Glad your enjoying it so much. Hope you draw some blood with it this fall. ;D We want pictures when you do...... ;D
-
Wow that is nice. I also really like the shape on those tips. Jesse
-
Great little bow Shannon. 55" would be quite short for me, I guess I gotta try one now. This bow WILL get meat this fall!!! Pat
ps. Skins look good too! 8)
-
The tips got my attention on this one. Nice job! Not to mention the tiller! Excellent work and bookmarked for June Self BOM.
I'd have named this fine weapon "ZOOM" >:D
-
Great work Shannon!
Tiller is spot on and you did a fine detailed job on the rest. Compliment!
-
Surely a fine looking little bow
-
SWEET!!! Shannon, you da man, don't see how you could improve on that. If you don't watch it, you're gonna fool around and learn to make bows one of these days. ;D ;D

That's a fine looking bow Shannon...great job. I like the skins, have one myself from a roadkill and keeping my eyes open for a second one. Tips look really good as well! Like always, your bows define the statement..."attention to detail". :)
-
great bow - you sure got the snakeskin thing nailed... You can send me that copperhead bow from last year since ya fell in love with this one! ;)
-
Very nice Shannoe, tiller looks great, just a beauty of a bow.Bet it will spit an arrow. :)

That bow is perfect in all respects. I can see why you are fond of it. That one is going in my scrap book.
-
Man, that looks gorgeous to me. I'm hugely impressed that you can get that weight out of such a short & narrow bow, without any significant set. Great unbraced profile & tiller!
-
Thanks very much guys!
Hillbilly, you crack me up, but I don't know if I'd ever call myself a "bowyer"
And Gordon, there's no such thing as perfect. But i'm flattered all the same.
Just so everyone will know, I don't like this bow so much because I think it's any better than any other bow here on PA. It's more because I consider it a gift from a friend. I liked that piece of wood from the moment I layed eyes on it and was silently saying to myself "boy, I hope he gives me that!" It was just begging to be a bow!
Stickhead, osage is some amazing stuff. The main thing with any wood is making sure it's dry. I like to get it down to 7.5-8% MC and never over 9%. Thanks again, Saw Filer

I can see why you call it your favorite bow!! It's beautiful in all respects! 8) 8) I'd like to be able to shoot it. :D Joe H
-
Saw, much respect 'ol boy. How long did you have to season it?
-
Great looking bow. It is nice to see a change in the tips.
-
Shannon I may have to plagerize this design I really like ;D
-
Papa, when Ryan gave it to me it had been cut for several years. But unless kept in a controlled environment or somewhere with a low relative humidity most wood won't go below 10-11% MC.
I checked it with a moisture meter (I work for a Hardwood Lumber Co. and have lots of good equipment on hand ;D)and it was 11.2%. I dried it down 3.5% and tillered it out. Saw Filer
-
Great bow, Shannon. I love the skins and the narrow structure. Awesome, dude. Check out the elm bow from the stave you gave me.
Dan
-
Thanks Dan. That elm turned out better than I expected. Guess I just wasn't looking hard enought to see the bow hidden inside it. Saw Filer
-
That is one fine looking bow Shannon. Those skins look great and I really like the tips. Tiller looks great too.

Very nice job as I have already said, but I would have thought 3.5 would have been way to low for Osage. If fact I would have thought that would be to dry for Even Hickory. :)
Pappy
-
Oh no Pappy! I didn't dry it to 3.5%. I dropped it 3.5% from 11.2. Which left it about 7.7%. Hope that clears things up. I wouldn't want anybody to try that, that would be good for several little yellow toothpicks! Saw Filer

OK ,now I understand,ya that is about where I want the also. :)
