Title: Dogwood cornus sanguinea

Just got myself a big old lump of dogwood, biggest
I’ve seen before. The long piece is over 8ft.

Anyone used it before? I’ve heard historical references for longbows. I’ve got the feeling it might be finicky to season, is stripping the bark a bad idea?

Dogwood makes a great bow from what I have seen others do with it. Id strip the bark and seal the ends ASAP and store it where it won't get too hot. Hallway closet would be great, or someplace like it. If you dont have boring beetles and wood wasp you might get away with leaving the bark on, but I wouldn't chance it.

I’ve heard lots of people hearing about it but I’ve not actually seen any bows made from it. That said I haven’t tried the search on here yet so I may yet be surprised

I've seen several bows on here made of it. A member by the name of DRUID used to post some fantastic bows on here, dogwood was a favorite of his I believe. You may find some good results by searching his name here.
