You guys that were at the Hickory Shoot this weekend saw this stave in person. I'm building a bow for Herb Reynolds 8), the founder of CTA, and I bought this stave at the shoot. I knew I could get 2 staves out of it but with my planets aligned correctly I got 3 beautiful staves from the original chunk. With the tools pictured, and a great piece of wood, it all came together...or came apart, as it were. ;D The piggyback(belly split) came off clean without violating it's back. Then I separated the two sisters. These staves are 70" long and check out them rings! :o 8) Oh, if they all could work out like this did!!! 8) Pat

Must be clean living Pat ;) Sweeeeeeeeetttt :)

Really nice rings on those.
-
Should I call you a miser or just plain cheap. Sounds like the kind of stunt I would try. Good work. Justin
-
you deserve it after those breaks last week
-
Too sweet, if I tried something like that all I would have is firewood.
-
Toldja it would! ;D

Well when you start getting cocky, with all those nice bows you have been turning out, you just forgot to make a donation to the bow- god. Well you made up for it last week so you should be good to go for a few years more. ;D ;)
-
wow! ;D great. do you even have to vahse a ring on the piggy back?
-
David, I have had piggyback staves pop loose clean but not very often. Usually you have to remove a partial ring or two...sometimes you get fire wood!. :'( This stave was very straight grained with good sized annual rings. I believe that, and being fresh cut wood, is why it split so well. 8)
Justin, This was frugality not greed! ;D
Eddie, I'm glad to hear my Karma bank account is full. Wish my regular bank account was in the same shape. ::)
Rick...I've been there more than not! :o
Dano, Dana, Gordon and Radius, Thanks guys. Herb is a special person to trad archery, and especially in NC and I consider him a special friend. It will be an honor to build this bow for him...so Dano, I hope the karma holds out long enough to get Herb's bow done.
The wood was cut the 8th of May. Yep, just a few weeks ago so it has some drying to do first. By reducing the stave like I have should speed it up too. When I come up with the design, I'll reduce the stave to floor tiller stage and put it in the hot box for a while. I'll keep ya'll posted about the progress. Pat

Yeh, Ralph. The froe does help. I don't know how I did it without it. This is exactly what it was made for. Pat
