here is my first Bow this year. I had to take the last 5 months off due to a Rotator Cuff injury:
Osage Orange 67" N to N
56#@28"
Linen String
Linen Grip
No finish but will get bees wax and linseed oil as soon as it gets a bit warmer.

You handled the character very well. The tiller looks excellent.

Great looking and skillfully made bow. Take care of that rotator, though. Your bow is #27 Self Bow for May.

She's a dandy. Love that yella wood and the grain in it.

Very nice, Great job on a challenging piece of wood ;) Keenan

Thanks guys, She is a good shooter. I have been enjoying this one. One thing that is of interst on this bow is the growth rings. They are by far the tightest growth rings I have seen on osage. Funy thing is is that it took more set then I would normally see in a bow of this style.

Nice looking bow, it looked like a challenge. Tight growth rings will tend to take set like that from what I've seen. I'd watch that rounded belly. With all those curves and twists. I'd worry about a splinter lifting along the edge or a dip.
-
Hey yewarcher, just noticed the sinew you have pressed in the book on the vice. It looks dry, what's happenin with that? Just outa curiosity :).
-
beautiful! im workin on a hickory D bow right now, hope it comes out half as good as yours!

Mullet, I round all my bows that way. I am not at all worried about a splinter. Thanks for verifying the tight growth ring thought.
Cowboy, I always flatten my snew in that book prior to aplying. It keeps the sinew nice and straight. its the way that I prefer. There is not allot of pressure on that vice. Just enough to squish it a bit.

I believe that Paul was wondering what new Adventure you were planning with all of that Prepared Sinew........
-
ohhh...yes....now I understand.
A picture is wort a thousand word:
That sinew went on 2 static recurves a few nights ago:

I will have them tillered out in a few weeks.

Naw, I actually was wondering why you'd squish dry sinew ;D. But glad you thought otherwise Destructo - those static's are lookin good, like the way your holding them on the racks YewArcher. New ideas to try ;).
-
I learned that from watching Gary Davis sinew bows.
SJM
-
Yep....adds an instant Perry Reflex in it....before the Sinew ever starts to dry out!!
-
I shoulda spent more time around Gary at the Classic - too much agoin on. Now I gotta ask - how do you pull them into reflex on those blocks and what is that you have them tied with?
-
I clamp them down and then tie them down with whatever i have on hand. Linen works best because it really wont stretch.
SJM
-
Thanks SJM. After the sinew dries, then the linen stays under the sinew? or do you not sinew over your tie down? OK - last question I swear ;D.
-
Nice looking bow, I like your handle on that one.
Alan

Cowboy, It just stays under the sinew. After the bow is cured you just snip the line and it will come off the jig. Then just trim the line close and leave it underneath.
