Got to love tbhat yellow wood. Looks like it might come out a lot like Elkie. I catch my self wanting to try a short oshort osage Comanche bow.
-
I like that bend pat. Lookin good!
-
I got the stave reduced a few days ago then bent one tip yesterday and one today with dry heat and cooking oil. I let each bend stay clamped overnight.
-
after the initial tip bending and some tweaking...

More like 66", Kenneth.
-

Thanks guys. Hopefully I'll be able to work on it this weekend. I've been enjoying this bow building stuff lately. :OK
-
Looks good Pat. You keep that reflex it will be real fast. Just saying.🤠
-
looking good,, 66 is very ,, stable and accurate,,
-
Very nice, Pat!
-
I've done a little more, getting the tips aligned and reducing the weight. Here's a few pics, unbraced, braced with a tight tiller string and pulled a few inches. You can see the tiller is still off. More to come...

Looking real good, Pat!

Looking good from here Pat, ;) can't wait to see it finished up.

Pat what does the back profile look like?
-
I've been heat tweaking some twist and aligning the tips a little lately. Once I made a new string and got her to brace I noticed more lateral misalignment. I'm just going a little at a time.
I'll get the actual measurements but she has a gradual taper to the last 9" then taper to 1/2 tips for now.
-
Watching
-
OK, Selfbowman, the bow is 66" n/n, 1 1/2" at the fades, 1 3/8' at mid limb and 1 1/4" at 9" from the tips and tapers to 1/2" tips(for now)
-
Interesting on the 1-1/4” at nine inches. Width instead of thickness to hold the reflex in the last 9”. You plan making the last 9”a working part of the bow?
-
Once I get everything lined up and the twist remover I'll get the final shape of the tips. The last 6" of the tips will be rigid.
-
Still watching Pat. Looking good so far.
-
I'm having trouble with the lower limb tip wanting to twist laterally. I need to work on that now. The tiller is ok other than that. She's at 47#@26" now.
-
Well, it's about time... ;D
Got her all done and she shoots well, is light in the hand and is whisper quiet. She's 65" t/t and pulls just over 44#@26". I didn't add tip overlays and only have side nocks coming around to the belly. The handle wrap and floppy rest is commercial elk hide with mink string silencers. I did a sunburst dye job on the back with medium brown Fiebings leather dye. I've put about 50 arrows through her and like I said she shoots quite well.
Here are a few pics. I'll post a full draw later today...

Love it! Very nice. I really like the contrasting light Colors of the elk handle wrap and stain job. I may have to steal that idea🌝
-
Looks great. I it it’s fast and smooth.
-
Looks great! I really love the contrast between the dark back and the lighter sides! Makes me think of a vintage lemonwood bow but with a more modern design.
-
Thanks y'all. You are welcomed to it, Dave.
Selfbowman, she is smooth and shoots nice. I have no way of checking speed.
Airkah, I hadn't thought of that comparison but can see what you mean. I wanted only the back stained and with a sunburst style stain. I think it turned out nice. Is there a baby yet?
BTW, after I put 25 arrows through her today I unbraced her and she still held 2 3/4" of reflex.
-
Thanks Pat. It looks great and is an inspiration to many. :OK
-
I really like how it came out too.
There is a baby! She's happy and healthy and almost 3 months old. :)
-
Cool, Airkah. Built her a bow yet?
Thanks Bob.
-
Great looking work Pat. Holding that reflex well. Starburst dye job looks real good.

-
That retained a good amount of reflex it’s fast and smooth . Cool bow.
-

-

I have been looking at this for a week. The pics finally showed up on the thread for me to see. Looking good ol' boy. I'm sure it shoots just as fine.
