Title: Ash in my car

I dropped a white ash today at work, and saved a nice 9 foot section of it. The the base, I would say is 6 to 7 inches. Perfectly straight. No branches.
The top was dead, thus why we took it down. The section that I have isn't totally dry, neither is it totally green.

Should I :
1)split it and cap the ends
2) not split it and cap the ends
3) not split it and not cap the ends.

split it seal the ends.  You may not even have to seal the ends but i would still do it.

o and debark it

I'd split it, de-bark it, and seal the backs and ends.

I won't be able to debark it tonight though. So here's another question. If I split it tomorrow (Wednesday) after work (all the wedges are at the shop), will it be okay to wait another day (Thursday) to debark and seal?

Oh come on, we all want to see pictures of that.  

Split, debark and seal the ends.  I don't think you need to seal the back on ash or most white woods, but it wont hurt to do it.  
The quicker you debark it the easier it will come off.  Justin

It's kind of hard taking a photo of yourself, while running a chainsaw.
And a photo of the 9 ft ash in the back of my station wagon just doesn't seem all the interesting.

I guess the ultimate excuse I have though, I simply don't own a digital camera. I still haven't bought a cell either.

If the top of the tree died you should check for fungi through out the rest of the wood. If it is discolored you may have problems...otherwise, split it, remove the bark and seal the back and ends.      Pat

What Pat said,I am always leery of a tree that is dead or dieing.I would split
debark as soon as possible and seal,like Justin said it ant always necessary to seal the back
of white wood, but a good precaution for a little bit of trouble. :)

I would at the very least halve it and get the ends sealed ASAP. I would be very leary of if not fully green, ash will get buggy pretty quick and then you have firewood. Good luck. Oh, Glad to see not eveyone has given in to technology ;D
