Title: Yew Wood Bow?
Post by: neuse on August 04, 2021, 10:20:06 pm
This is first time with a piece of yew.

This piece is 55".

I have gone beyond the sap wood in several places on the back.

What options do I have for the back of the bow?

Flatsawn backings work well too :) The firbers don't care about their orientation :)
I'd remove all the sapwood, smooth out the back and then back with sinew.

Ok, thank you.

I was hoping to not back it, but I don't want it to lift either.

How about rawhide?

So the back is undulating.
What would be a really thin rawhide I could use?
I was thinking maybe lambskin, not sure.

You don't want it really thin :) You want something super tough. Generally if you were to back a stave, you would flatten the back beforehand.

May have to put this one aside for a little while, untill I can decide what to do.
