This one turned out really nice. It’s scary sharp.
Knapped from obsidian spall my cousin sent me. Halved to a Red Osier fore shaft with pine pitch and white tail sinew. Driftwood display.

I thought about making it a dagger. It would have made a nice one. I decided on halved it it to a removable fore shaft for a Atlatl instead.
I certainly wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of the dart. Definitely one of my nicer points

Thanks Russell

Very nice point - thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone.
Willie I will try to get some pictures of dart when I get a chance.
I actually had this one in mind for another PA member I traded a Atlatl a few years ago. He broke the obsidian point and I’m thinking this one should work. Don’t see him on here much anymore but hopefully meet up with him at Marshall.

Looks really nice.
BJ you need to stick a deer with it.

Rob I really can’t hit shit with a Atlatl. I enjoy casting the dart as far as I can. But I can’t seem to hit a target. One of the reasons I was thinking of giving this one to a better hunter than myself.

Maybe someday I will figure it out, but right now my only chance of hitting a deer with it would be if a closely packed herd stood about 30 yards from me.

Very cool, Brian! Good pictures.

Thanks Steve. It’s always hard taking good pictures of this stuff. They just never seem to look as good as the real thing.

very nice point and pictures BJ !!
what knapping technique are you using?
-
Thanks GilsGlis.
I started with a spall from my cousin. I used percussion to mass reduce and get pretty close to my final shape. Then I switched to indirect and did a little more thinning. Then I finished up with pressure and put a nice sharp edge on.

Good work BJ. May need to borrow that driftwood display idea you use if I ever get anything hafted. Thanks for taking the time to share your work. Looks great!
