this is my fastest bow to date. It is 56in ttt. Around 70lbs at 25in. I was trying out a new handle design on this one and really like it.. i made this bow probably 6 months ago and just never posted it because its just plain.

Nice bow but I like the dog making sure you do it right😀😀😀

Impressive little bow!
-
Really nice bend. I do think your dog likes the full draw to.

Sometimes just "plain" is why self bows are so beautiful. This is a great example of that. I love it!
-
Man you guys are pulling some heavy bows, it does look nice
-
It’s not easy to get that much weight from such a short bow, while keeping keeping a nice unbraced profile. Well done!
-
great work congrats,, :)

Excellent little bow, Jake. Well done! 8)

I use a pinch grip as well. What you can't see is me saying," hurry honey take the pic..." lol thanks for all the kind words!
-
I sure like that.
-
Very nice hickory bow. Well done!
-
Nice stout bow :)
What sort of string is that?
-
Nice job, love them hickory bows. :)

The string is artificial sinew like halfeye used to make.
-
Good work !!
-
Heck of a nice looking piece of hickory.
-
Good looking bow in my favorite design. But why so short? How fast does it shoot?
-
Well scp I dont really like bows much longer than that. I have a short draw and like them short and compact. A bow as long as I am tall just seams clunky and awkward. To each there own. I wish I had a crono.
-
Interesting. I generally make bows 66"-72", with 60" as the very min and 74" as the max. They draw smoothly and allow a solid anchor.
-
So far as I know, even though short bows feel faster, for the same draw weight and draw length, longer bows usually shoot much faster than the shorter bows. (TBB4) I guess, within reason, of course. Will that theory be applicable to rather heavy bows with somewhat short draw length?
-
Plain or not, it's still a great bow!

Yea your right scp. I dont anchor though. I snap shoot. I may not hit a quarter at 20 yards all day but put a squirrel inside of 15 yards and he'll be dinner. :BB
-
Either way, beautiful bow. I would love to be able to pull #70 once in a while. It's nice to see that hickory can take such strain. How wide and thick is the middle of the working limb? Thanks.

I like it, Jake. I’d been thinking about Half-eye’s old line, lately...something like “Make what you like”.
There is a lot of wisdom in that, I think. I like the profile and with a handle like that you could probably shoot both sides. Lately, I’ve been learning to shoot a thumb ring...I bet a bow like that would work out well. Just a thought.
I’m with Jaap...it’s a great bow.
Cheers
P.s. Did you heat treat?
-
It's 1.5in out of the fadesand carries pretty much that to about 10in from the tip then tapers to about .5in at the nocks.yea I did do a pretty heavy heat treat/fire hardening(whatever you wanna call it).
In my experience good hickory DON'T break!

shorter bows can shoot fast, and alot of Native American bows were shorter,, Sioux bows,, 23 inch arrow was average, etc,,
I made a straight tip sinew bow 54 inches, 180 fps with 10 gpp arrow,, just for example,, it really depends on design, just depends on what you calling fast,, etc,
there is no need for a good solid anchor,, unless that is your preference,, looking at the profile of this bow,, you can guess it has good cast for its draw weight,, a 500 grain hunting arrow probaby more than 180 fps and shooting hard enough to kill a buffalo, short is as short does,, yes a longer well designed self bow could do that,,, but it wouldnt be short ,, and yes I have a chrono, and test long and short bows,, and love both,, most people make longer bows so there is more info on them,,

I love that bow. Excellent work.
-
Plain is good in my book. Love the looks of that one. Only thing I see wrong with that one is she’s a bit to stout for me lol. If she decides to drop about 20 lbs, she can move in with me. Nice job.
-
Dangerous toy!
Love it!
-
wow - impressive work on that one - elegant handle and fades - did you do any heat treating?
