Title: Whats fast for a 22” draw?
Post by: eastcreekarchery on January 17, 2021, 04:43:15 pm
Im doing some speed tests on a short bow and was wondering whats a good speed for its 22” inch draw. Im assuming that I shouldn’t compare it to bows with the same draw weight but longer draw lengths bc they would have the advantage of a longer power stroke.

ok dont know what is fast, I am working on bow now, its shooting 160 fps with 9gpp arrow,,
its pulling 52#@22 inches, mass weight 17.3 ounces,,
once you get to 23 or 24 they will shoot a bit harder,,  this is not a short bow, so I think it will do better at longer draw,,
I think anything above 150 is good, but think you can be in the 160's or better,,I have some short bows that draw 23 inches, that shoot pretty hard, I would have to go back and look,, but 170 ish,,
LIke I said ,, in my experience, starting at about 23 inches the power stroke seems to be more effecient and shoot quite a bit harder,, I will try to find my notes and post more,,
I will add, that a hunting weight arrow going 150 or better is good for deer at close range,, so thats kinda my bench mark,, I like my bows to be able to hunt,,
ok I posted an osage sinew bow a while back,, 48 1/2 nock to nock,,
it was shooting a 7.87gpp arrow 182 fps,, at 23 inches of draw,,  it was 53#@23 inches, 417 grain arrow,,anything over 400 grains I think is ok for deer,,for me,, thats my comfort level,,
