I have been working on this a while, was going for 45 but it came in heavy,, its about 55#@24 inches..im drawing to about 23 in the pic, and am thinking of taking it down a bit,,but wanted so show at this point anyway,,it was from a split off a stave,, and I spliced it at handle,, wasnt sure it was enough to make a bow,, but at this point if I pulled it to 26 it would be about 60#,, so it made plenty of bow,,
I was not able to follow a growth ring, and that worried me a bit,, but the sinew seemed to handle it ok,, and it shoots really well, the tiller looks a little positive at brace,, but I get really good arrow flight, so not sure if I will change that,, just shoot it a bit and see if it shifts any,,
the bow is 52 inches nock to nock,,african rawhide handle wrap,,acrylic paint to touch up some handle issues,,
I plan on painting the back,, as well, ,but that could take a while but will post when I do,,,

Great looking sinew-backed osage bow! Really nice bend
-
An it's crazy how good the profiles look on that short of a bow. So do you normally go for an equal tiller or neutral(idk what it's called)
-
Allyn,, I just try to get the limbs to work even,, so the unbraced profile stays the same,,
Im not sure what its called,,but wood has so much variation,,it will vary from bow to bow,, unless its laminated and I think there is more controll,,this bow I just had what the stave gave me,, so I tillered it for that,, I didnt have the option to choose the shape of the bow,, just barely had enough wood to work with,, I did reflex the outers a bit,, but they straighten out a bit at full draw,,
I tried to make it bend even,, with the lower limb a bit stiffer,, in my experience,, the stiffer lower limb makes it easier for good arrow flight, and that might be the way I hold the bow and the string, and it could vary with different shooters,,if I get good arrow flight and the arrow does not hit my hand on release, I have it tillerd pretty good for me,, I hope that answers your question,, ask me a different way if I did not,,
Ok I thought about it a minute, I try to tiller the bow so it does not take too much set in any part of the limb,, or limbs,, and adjust the positive tiller so i can get good arrow flight,, if the bow shoots really well and does not change in the unbraced profile,, im pretty happy with that, no matter what it looks like,,
I started putting on the art work,, dont worry, if I dont like it I can paint it black and start over,, ;D

Nice! I always enjoy your bows, especially the ones with painted backs. (Now we know why you like the short draws...you have to clear your hat brim!)
-
thanks Tim,, yes I design the bow around the hat,, for sure,, ;D
-
Ha Tim that's good stuff. Brad if one limb is reflexed and the other reflexed wouldn't one store more energy so how do you tiller that? Still do it even or do you change it
-
most guys would heat them to even the shape and then tiller,,
-
Very cool bow, Brad. I just love a simple osage bow even with some sinew on it. Should be a fine hunting bow for you. :OK
-
thanks Pat, I hope to get to hunt with it,, :)
-
Very cool Brad. Love your short bows
-
Santanasaur thanks so much,, :)

I like short bows, and your bow is an absolutely artistical weapon!
Congrats!

thank You MM2, it does shoot very nice,, its fun to shoot too,, and is heavy enough to take deer size game as well,, I have enjoyed learning about getting the most from a short power stroke and have been impressed with what they can do,, and contine to learn on every one,, the art is fun for me, and I get a bit crazy with it sometimes, but thats part of the fun,, I have always enjoyed hunting with my bows, so most the time they are designed for just that,,or made to be able to hunt,, I hope to do some chrono test with it soon,, and will post results,,

Great looking bow, I like that.
